Fastlane 2019 : 7 matches that are likely to happen at this WWE PPV

The final stop on the road to WrestleMania is upon us.
The final stop on the road to WrestleMania is upon us.

Elimination Chamber is now in the books, meaning that there is only one pay-per-view before WrestleMania 35 now. That pay-per-view is probably the most frustrating unnecessary one on the standard WWE calendar, Fastlane.

WWE has never produced a really good Fastlane event, with the shows ranging from bad to average. Some infuriating moments have happened on this show, like various Roman Reigns victories and Goldberg's 20-second Universal title victory over Kevin Owens.

This year, however, has the chance to right some of those wrongs and turn it into a more positive show. This WrestleMania is the most exciting one in years, and that bumps up the anticipation for Fastlane a little bit.

Some of the happenings at the freshly concluded Elimination Chamber pay-per-view have also contributed to a more exciting Fastlane. There were some good and some bad on this show. But anyway, there are angles that require conclusions as well as building blocks for WrestleMania.

Here are seven likely for WWE Fastlane 2019.

#7 Sasha Banks and Bayley vs Nia Jax and Tamina (Women's Tag Team Championship)

Sasha and Bayley won the women's tag titles.
Sasha and Bayley won the women's tag titles.

Sasha Banks and Bayley won an incredible Elimination Chamber match to become the first-ever WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, last eliminating Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville after a gutsy showing throughout the entire match.

The biggest obstacle they faced was in the form of the Samoan Slaughterhouse. Nia Jax and Tamina entered the match last and made an impact, eliminating two teams. Their run of dominance was halted when Jax ran through one of the pods.

That created an opening for Tamina to be ganged up on and therefore, pinned. Surely this was a way for Nia Jax to be protected for an upcoming title match. The two powerhouses are going to be the first challengers for Sasha and Bayley's newly won tag titles.

It would be a mountain to climb for the two former NXT Women's Champions but would set up nicely for a potentially much bigger match at WrestleMania. The babyfaces will find a way to topple Nia and Tamina.

Prediction: Sasha and Bayley retain the titles

#6 The Revival vs Glorious Gable (Raw Tag Team Championship)

The Revival finally did it.
The Revival finally did it.

Going from the female tag titles to male ones, it is time that these teams and titles get some spotlight. Last week on Raw, we finally saw the Revival win the Tag Team Championship on the main roster.

The first-ever two-time champions in NXT history have been scratching and clawing for their opportunities and it looked like their time would never come. But now here they are, on top of Raw's tag team division. Dash and Dawson defeated the team of Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, in an excellent match.

The pair of teams have been killing it every night at WWE house shows and have shown some of their brilliance on TV, but now it is time for this match to be showcased in a pay-per-view setting.

The Revival and Glorious Gable could easily steal the show if they are given around 10-15 minutes here. WWE should build properly to this rematch and possibly add in a stipulation, perhaps 2-out-of-3 falls. Do not sleep on these guys, especially the Revival.

Prediction: The Revival stay on top

#5 Asuka vs Mandy Rose (Smackdown Women's Championship)

What does Asuka do at WrestleMania?
What does Asuka do at WrestleMania?

Ever since making Becky Lynch tap out at Royal Rumble, Asuka has not made a single appearance on WWE programming. Going into Fastlane and WrestleMania, the Empress of Tomorrow should be featured more and more.

With all the focus on the Raw women's title scene, Asuka has been a somewhat forgotten figure. She needs something of note to do at WrestleMania before that, she must be showcased at Fastlane. However, there hardly is any competition for her on Smackdown at the moment.

Out of all of the Blue brand's current women, Mandy Rose certainly seems like the one most primed to challenge Asuka for the Smackdown Women's Championship. She was part of the final team eliminated from the Women's tag title Elimination Chamber match, having started the match, and has been pretty prominently featured on Smackdown for months now. It would be an okay match with the sole purpose of making Asuka look like a killer heading into the Show of Shows.

Prediction: Asuka destroys Mandy Rose

#4 Finn Balor vs Bobby Lashley (Intercontinental Championship)

Balor captured the IC title at Elimination Chamber.
Balor captured the IC title at Elimination Chamber.

After the handicap match at Elimination Chamber, Bobby Lashley has a legitimate claim for a direct one-on-one rematch for the Intercontinental Championship. Finn Balor won the title by pinning Lio Rush, prompting the Dominator to attack his hype man after the match.

Nevertheless, this would spark Balor's first proper championship reign on the main roster, especially after his Universal Championship reign was cut short due to injury. Balor should hold the IC title for a long time but first, he must put Lashley behind him.

A one-on-one contest at Fastlane would be a solid match, the perfect punctuation to this long-standing feud. With WrestleMania approaching, the Irishman should be put into a more prominent position along with the title he is holding.

After this, it really should be time to freshen up the upper midcard scene on Raw. It has been frustrating and repetitive in large amounts, as perfectly illustrated by the match between Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman on the show.

Prediction: Finn Balor moves on

#3 Rey Mysterio vs Andrade

These two are unbelievable together.
These two are unbelievable together.

Last month, in the leadup to Royal Rumble, Rey Mysterio and Andrade had a couple of excellent matches on Smackdown. This series has completely revitalised Andrade and has turned him into a real player on the Blue brand, with him pinning the legendary luchador a couple of times.

After the pair shared an exhilarating 2-out-of-3 falls match, which did not have a conclusive ending, the WWE universe is hungry for more. It truly has been a pleasure to watch such seamless action between two masters in the ring.

It seemed like Mysterio and Andrade would do battle at Elimination Chamber, with the latter attacking the former a couple of weeks ago on Smackdown. But the pay-per-view has come and gone with no mention of these two at all.

They could be gearing up for the next show, in three weeks' time. This would be a stunner of a match, with the two Mexicans working their magic together. Mysterio should pick up the win here, evening the score and setting up a mouth-watering blowoff match at WrestleMania. That would be lovely to see.

Prediction: Rey Mysterio gets his win back

#2 Daniel Bryan vs Mustafa Ali (WWE Championship)

Ali missed the Chamber.
Ali missed the Chamber.

Firstly, it must be said that Kofi Kingston had another breathtaking night at Elimination Chamber and formed one-half of possibly the most nail-biting final two in Chamber match history. He definitely should receive his moment, possibly at WrestleMania.

But for Fastlane, the opportunity should be given to the man he replaced, Mustafa Ali. The former 205 Live superstar caught an unlucky break when a Randy Orton stomp went wrong messed his eye up and it got aggravated over last weekend, ruling him out of the Chamber match. All the massive things Kofi has done in the past two weeks were all presumably planned for Ali, in what could have been the ultimate star-making booking for him.

While his misfortune turned out to be the New Day member's gain, Ali should receive a title shot in the interim before WrestleMania, as well as build for a possible future title reign. He is one of the best babyfaces on the entire roster, with hardly anyone able to garner sympathy in the way he does it.

The match with Daniel Bryan would be another excellent one for the show, with the reigning WWE Champion standing tall again. Bryan, as said many times before, has been a revelation as the heel WWE Champion and should absolutely continue on top until WrestleMania at the very least.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan marches on with the sustainable title

#1 Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair (If Becky wins, she is added to the WrestleMania main event)

Fight forever.
Fight forever.

It seems like WWE has booked a second pay-per-view between Royal Rumble and WrestleMania just for this match and this story. On Raw this past week, Mr McMahon himself came out and replaced Becky Lynch with Charlotte Flair in the main event of WrestleMania 35 against Ronda Rousey, suspending her as well.

At Elimination Chamber, the Man interrupted the face-off between Rousey and Charlotte following the champ's disappointing squash match against Ruby Riott. Over the next couple of episodes of Raw, Becky will show up once again and raise even more hell.

A great time to do this would be during Ric Flair's birthday celebration in Atlanta next week. Following that, Ronda herself could demand Becky be added back to the Raw Women's title match at 'Mania. And from there on, it is academic.

The Man will face off against her eternal rival, Charlotte Flair, with the opportunity to regain her place in the WrestleMania main event. Also, an additional stipulation would do nicely, since these two have been at war with each other since SummerSlam. This would be the perfect main event for the final pay-per-view before WrestleMania, with the biggest star in the company securing her ticket to the main event once and for all.

Prediction: Becky Lynch punches her ticket to WrestleMania once again
