7 New versions of old factions that could be formed with current WWE Superstars

The Undisputed Era is one of the top factions under the WWE umbrella.
The Undisputed Era is one of the top factions under the WWE umbrella.

The wrestling landscape is always more interesting when there are numerous factions battling each other. It happened during the Attitude Era with DOA, The Nation of Domination, The Hart Foundation, the Ministry, DX and many more.

NWO ruled WCW in the mid and late 1990s and even that faction broke into two huge groups that battled each other. Kevin Nash broke off and formed the NWO Wolfpac which was the 'cooler, hipper' version of the group. Nash always had to be the coolest.

Today, groups like the Bullet Club, the Elite, the New Day and the Undisputed Era are tearing things up in one form or fashion.

Not all groups are successful, however. While the Nexxus had potential, it was squandered as quickly as they debuted. A group like that shouldn't have simply been stamped out by John Cena.

But nonetheless, there are always ways to improve the WWE product. It's an ongoing cyclical product that sometimes adapts with the changing times, and sometimes it does not.

Since WWE often likes to borrow from its past, here are some suggestions for factions or teams from the past that could be created using current superstars.

Because any four wrestlers in a faction will always be compared/linked to the Four Horsemen, I'm not going to suggest a new version of the historic group.

#7 The Varsity Club

The possibility exists in today's WWE for the formation of a variation of the Varsity Club faction.
The possibility exists in today's WWE for the formation of a variation of the Varsity Club faction.

As long as pro wrestling continues to feature wrestlers with legitimate amateur wrestling credentials, there will always be the idea of forming another version of the Varsity Club.

For those who are unaware of this stable, it existed in the mid to late 1980s in NWA and WCW and primarily consisted of Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotunda (IRS), Rick Steiner and Dr. Death Steve Williams.

Steiner would eventually leave to form the historic tag team the Steiner Brothers with his brother Scott. The main impetus of the group was that each member was a stud amateur wrestler from various colleges.

Rotunda wore a Syracuse jacket, Steiner wore a Michigan jacket and Williams wore one representing Oklahoma. They were primarily heels because they were able to break out several wrestling moves during any given match.

Today's WWE roster is laden with many superstars who have beginnings in amateur wrestling. While Kurt Angle had Team Angle in the early 2000s, he's probably best left out of this suggestion.

With wrestlers like Dolph Ziggler, Chad Gable, Shelton Benjamin and even Bobby Lashley, it wouldn't be hard to envision a stable forming with these superstars. And if Jason Jordan is ever medically cleared, he'd be perfect for this stable as well.

While Bobby Lashley probably wouldn't fit, the rest of the guys would, relying on their technical skill and amateur background to cause havoc. Gable and Ziggler could be the mouthpieces for the group.

It might not be a faction WWE would ever revisit, but they certainly have the pieces in place if they ever need a stable of heel amateur wrestlers. They even teased the formation of such a faction back in NXT with Sawyer Fulton, Tucker Knight, Angelo Dawkins, Jordan and Gable.

#2 Power and Glory

Power and Glory was a simple concept at its premise but could be easily recreatable.
Power and Glory was a simple concept at its premise but could be easily recreatable.

This was a tag team in the early 1990s that consisted of Hercules Hernandez and Paul Roma. Hercules provided the 'Power' and Roma added the 'Glory'. Unfortunately for Roma, he didn't have the best of luck when it came to teams/stables.

The team was managed by the smooth-talking Slick as one of the teams under his master tutelage. They often battled the likes of the Rockers, the Hart Foundation, LOD and other combinations of faces at the time.

Since the concept is simple in its design of pairing a powerful superstar with one that is slightly smaller but super athletic, why not pair the likes of Apollo Crews with Bobby Lashley as a newer version?

The original team's finisher was a super-plex off the top rope by Hercules followed by a splash off the top rope from Roma. Lashley and Crews could easily recreate that finishing sequence or even update it with a moonsault or 450 splash from Crews.

Lashley is kind of stagnant now even though he's been slightly more successful as an arrogant heel. Crews desperately needs a change and a heel turn would be great for him. He wouldn't have to talk as much and he could simply brag about his athleticism. Or have Lio Rush do it.

WWE always pairs singles stars together to form tag teams, and this is one that could have potential. The WWE missed the boat on a potential variation of the former tag team when they had Cesaro briefly tag with Neville. That would have been a perfect version of the team.

#3 NWO/BWO

While not as popular as the NWO, the BWO has a place in wrestling history.
While not as popular as the NWO, the BWO has a place in wrestling history.

I would have simply mentioned the NWO as a faction to recreate, but since it had a few 'ripoffs', I felt that it would be easier to create a new version of the NWO that's closer to one of the knockoffs.

Since the Blue World Order was ECW's answer to the NWO, they were part comedy and part wresting. They didn't capture all the gold, but they were an entertaining act nonetheless.

It would easy to do because Vince always seems to want to reboot or recreate the NWO faction. The main problem is that the three main men behind it - Hogan, Nash and Hall - are all too old and out of shape to be believable.

For that reason, I am suggesting the Bald Guy World Order or the Bald Guy Mafia. There are a plethora of chrome-domed superstars on the roster and it would be a great marketing ploy.

Think of all the shirts and other merchandise they could churn out. Guys like Cesaro, Apollo Crews, Titus O'Neill and Gallows and Anderson would be perfect for the group. O'Neill or the Good Brothers could be the voice so Apollo and Cesaro could be the wrestling threats.

The Good Brothers are used to doing work in factions and might be better served being placed in one should circumstances dictate it necessary in the near future. The could say that bald is beautiful and that they haven't been getting the opportunities they should be getting.

Sure, Lashley and the Big Show are also bald guys, but Lashley doesn't have the charisma to pull off the role and Big Show would turn heel and face too much to make an impact.

#4 Team Canada/Hart Foundation

The Harts will always be one of the most memorable families in wrestling history.
The Harts will always be one of the most memorable families in wrestling history.

Since Major League Wrestling is trying to copyright the name 'Hart Foundation' because of the team of Teddy Hart, Brian Pillman, Jr. and David Hart Smith, I would either call this the Hart Legacy or something related to Team Canada.

The current political climate in the US would make this work as many are for and many are against policies that the current orange-haired president is trying to pass.

The Hart Legacy could easily boast that things are better in Canada and that that Canada treats its citizens much better than the US does. It could lead to a return appearance for Bret Hart. They could feud with the US Champion, Rusev, who has changed his stance on the US.

There are a ton of Canadian wrestlers currently in the WWE, so it wouldn't be hard to form this faction. People like Bobby Roode, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Natalya would be perfect for the Hart Legacy.

Owens named his son after Owen Hart and Natalya is a member of the Hart family. The wrestlers not named Hart could be included because of the impact that the Hart Foundation and family had on their lives.

Cesaro would be a good addition due to his time as a team with both Tyson Kidd and Natalya, and Tye Dillinger could also be a member.

Since Natalya isn't the strongest on the mic, she could leave the talking to Owens, Zayn and Roode, who can all hold their own and more on the microphone.

#5 Money Inc.

IRS and the Million Dollar Man were great heels back in the day.
IRS and the Million Dollar Man were great heels back in the day.

When I was a child, I hated Money Inc. That means the Million Dollar Man and IRS did the job WWF wanted them to do - get heel heat. There are a lack of credible heel teams in the WWE mainly due to the fans of today preferring to root for good in-ring workers regardless of alignment.

The crowd usually is right along with booing the Miz, so if he needs to be in a tag team as a heel again, I'd suggest putting him with the near-invisible Tye Dillinger. They could form a team similarly to Money Inc., but I'd call it Awesomely Perfect 10 Enterprises.

They could continue to have the Miz trying to get people 'acting jobs' as well as politicking for top matches either on Raw, Smackdown or at PPVs. He could be a wrestler, manager and promoter.

Heck, they could even bring in Drew Gulak to do their Power-Point presentations for them. Wrestlers like Mojo Rawley, Zack Ryder and Aiden English could be 'clients' and could either join the group or feud with them. Of course, they could feud with some top faces like Finn Balor or AJ Styles.

Some of the best heels are the arrogant, rich ones who use their money and influence to get what they want. The Miz has the influence so to speak, so a rehashing of Money Inc. could work in today's WWE. EC3 probably doesn't need a group, but he'd fit right in with this one.

#6 New Authority

Will the McMahons truly keep their hands out of the action and just run the shows as promised?
Will the McMahons truly keep their hands out of the action and just run the shows as promised?

As much as I want to believe that the McMahons will stay away from the limelight and just run things as straight-laced figures, their history is too laden with power plays to ignore.

A lot of the best storylines have involved a wrestler/group of wrestlers against an Authority - Daniel Bryan vs. the Authority, the Shield vs. the Authority, Stone Cole Steve Austin vs. Mr. McMahon.

The inherent challenge of someone going against the establishment is an easy storyline to do and it usually is successful as long as the payoff is that the Authority faction loses out in the end.

Since the McMahons appear to be staying around as on-screen characters, it might not be long before a new version of the Authority is formed. They've already positioned Drew McIntyre as a potential top star of Raw, so he'd likely be a easy choice.

Guys like Lashley and the Authors of Pain would also make sense because Vince loves guys who look like Lashley and the AOP could do a lot of the dirty work. Baron Corbin would have worked, but he might not be a fan of theirs at the moment. That would all change if they gave him back some power.

This faction was already headed towards being formed, so if the McMahons decide to dip their hands back into maniacal heel roles again, they could use some the suggestions here.

#7 New Wyatt Family

How will Bray Wyatt return to WWE? As the same character or a new one?
How will Bray Wyatt return to WWE? As the same character or a new one?

This concept has been kicked around a lot due to the initial success of the original Wyatt Family. But since Wyatt has lost practically every big feud he's been in, his credibility is shot. He's currently off TV, but is it because he's being repackaged, or is there nothing for him?

If a new version of the Wyatt Family is created, perhaps it could be a face group that challenges the status quo. If they're's a new Authority, it would be a great foe for the New Wyatt Family to 'challenge' the authority.

The Undisputed Era is going to be joining the main roster at some point in 2019, so they will need at least one face stable, other than the New Day, to feud with.

They would probably work best as heels though, so for that purpose, they could rename it the Cult of Wyatt. He could tempt face wrestlers with his words or be the sort of 'devil's advocate' that Sean O'Haire was trying to be in the early 2000s.

He could offer faces the chance to win by nefarious means in order to reveal their true selves to the world. It would be fun to watch guys like Finn Balor or Elias battle their inner demons in order to either join or resist Wyatt.

Since Harper and Rowan did so-so without the family, they could be put back with Bray Wyatt. He could also recruit the B Team, saying that they are a joke that the WWE Universe is laughing at.

There's also Mojo Rawley kicking around, so he could be an immediate member or one of the first recruits. Bray Wyatt is too talented a mic worker not to be in charge of a stable, but the bookers must present him as a true threat so his words don't fall flat like they have in the past.

Jeff Hardy could even join the faction and either fight back a la Daniel Bryan or start a heel run during his current stay in WWE.
