Long time wrestling fans may wonder why Hulk Hogan was never the AWA world champion. The reason AWA owner and booker Verne Gagne never put the belt on him was because the Hulkster had no real world amateur wrestling experience. Gagne thought that Hogan, as champion, wouldn't be taken seriously because he was a performer and not a combat sports specialist - such as men like Bob Backlund and himself were.

Lesnar, however, is a bonafide All American amateur wrestler. Then, factor in his successful Ultimate Fighting Championship career, and you realize a simple fact; Brock Lesnar is a legitimately dangerous man.

In order to portray a larger than life character, it helps to literally be larger than life. Brock Lesnar's appearance and victories in the octagon just cement his status as a man who could beat the living crap out of most of the fans who are down on him all the time. This lends credibility to the championship, and wrestling in general.
