7 Sins of The Rock in WWE

Finally, The Rock has come to our Seven Sins series!
Finally, The Rock has come to our Seven Sins series!

If there was ever a Mount Rushmore featuring the greatest wrestlers of all time, The Rock would certainly be carved in rock, raising his stone-carved eyebrows for all to admire.

The most electrifying man in sports entertainment is not just the most successful movie star in Hollywood at present, he has also been called the sexiest man alive by People Magazine.

The man has certainly blessed us with some of the most entertaining moments in sports entertainment during his time in the world's best-known sports entertainment company.

What many forget, however, is that he was not a perfect man at all, and we at Sportskeeda are today bringing you some of his darker, more sinful moments.

Presenting the Seven sins of Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock.

#7 Pride: Taking liberties that other wrestlers simply cannot

The Rock does not listen to anyone at all!
The Rock does not listen to anyone at all!

WWE today is not the same as the WWE of the Attitude Era. It’s a corporate giant that abides very strictly to certain guidelines making for scripted promos and well-orchestrated programs. Well, this applies only to the full-time roster, really.

The Rock appeared on Raw a few years ago after the show went off the air, and took certain liberties that he shouldn’t have. Not only did he call CM Punk on his phone in the middle of a packed arena (a man who’s not on good terms with the company at all), but he also made fun of John Cena, calling him a bad actor at a time when Cena is foraying into the competitive world of Hollywood.

That's not all. He put his fellow Samoan (and his cousin) Roman Reigns under the bus, by indirectly saying that he’ll be backstage booing the man. Imagine if any other wrestler had done this, they would be fired on the spot!

Sadly, none of them are as legendary as this man is, both inside and outside the squared circle.

#6 Envy: Refusing to wrestle Shawn Michaels

The biggest match that never happened?
The biggest match that never happened?

Things are a lot more civil between the two men right now. However, at a time when a match between The Rock and Shawn Michaels would have been a huge draw, The Rock simply refused to work with HBK.

Apparently, Michaels really wanted the match, but The Rock turned it down, despite the fact that it would have been a show-stopper. This animosity supposedly stemmed from the fact that Michaels was disrespectful to Rock's grandmother, Lia.

Instead of letting bygones be bygones for the benefit of the product, The Rock dismissed this dream match and it ended up never happening, as a result.

#5 Sloth: Burying The Wyatts in 6 seconds

Most part-timers come back only to put over new Superstars. Oh no, not The Great One, however.

The Rock was part of Wrestlemania 32 in Dallas, Texas, in a segment with the Wyatts, a family that had been losing steam on television over many months.

Not only did The Rock completely decimate The Wyatts on the microphone by calling them inbred and fat, he also pinned Erick Rowan in 6 seconds.

When the Wyatts would gang up to take him down, John Cena would come to the rescue to re-bury the Wyatt family. It would take a brand split to resurrect the credibility of these talented performers.

The least Rocky could have done is worked a slightly longer match! But, he did appear on WWE television in 2019 and put over Becky Lynch.

#4 Lust: The lure of Hollywood

The Rock turned his back on the wrestling world, during his absolute peak
The Rock turned his back on the wrestling world, during his absolute peak

Remember the many assurances of The Rock, telling us that he was back in WWE for good? Do you remember how he broke our hearts every single time?

How? By leaving after assuring us he wouldn’t. Especially considering that he left in his prime when he was healthy and could have given us many amazing programs indeed.

The lust for fame runs strong in The Brahma Bull, does it not?

#3 Gluttony: Being jealous of Ahmed Johnson using his last name

It’s safe to say that Ahmed Johnson won't be remembered as fondly as The Rock by wrestling fans. Even he had a bitter experience with The Rock!

Apparently, The Rock, not content at being Vince McMahon's next blue-eyed boy, was jealous of the fact that Ahmed Johnson was using his real last name when he was forced to be Rocky Maivia. This resulted in him being difficult backstage and even led to a full-blown fistfight between the two.

#2 Avarice: ‘That's good, but not good for The Rock’

Not only did Ahmed Johnson find it hard to work with The Rock, so did his best friends in the company.

Bubba Ray Dudley remembers a time when Chris Jericho and The Rock were taking on The Dudley Boyz. Bubba suggested that Stacy Kiebler grab his leg, causing the distraction.

The Rock’s response? “that’s good, but not good for The Rock”!

In the pursuit of developing his own character, The Rock would take liberties with the actual matches with such stipulations. Just because he could!

#1 Wrath: 11 chair shots to Mick Foley’s exposed head

The Rock unleashed a savage assault on his former friend

At the 1999 Royal Rumble, The Rock and Mankind had one of the most brutal matches in sports entertainment history. After handcuffing Mankind, The Rock hit him on the head with 11 chair shots. Foley hasn’t been the same since, to this day.

While it is easy to get carried away in the heat of the moment, this was a bit too much! Foley's wife and kids were in tears, covering their eyes and getting up to leave. This is after the agreed-upon number was 5 chair shots.

The worst part - Foley allowed this to show The Rock as an aggressive performer, not just a funny one.
