What dream matches wait for Dean Ambrose in AEW and NJPW?

It's been a whirlwind of a start to 2019 for fans of professional wrestling. The beginning of the year saw All Elite Wrestling officially getting announced which could have a seismic impact on the state of professional wrestling, not only in the United States but worldwide.

AEW showed their intent by signing Chris Jericho and reportedly signing him to the biggest contract of his pro wrestling career. A television deal is also reportedly on the table and we've already seen certain ramifications for WWE including some Superstars reportedly asking for their release. Dean Ambrose reportedly refused to sign a new contract after being unhappy with his position in WWE and disappointed with creative, something WWE officially acknowledge.

We still don't know if this is a work or whether Dean Ambrose is actually set to leave but if he does, the possibilities for him are huge. Where could Ambrose end up for the next few years? The two biggest destinations for him outside WWE would probably be New Japan Pro Wrestling or the fledgling All Elite Wrestling.

In this article, we take a look at some dream matches in store for Ambrose at NJPW or AEW if he does indeed decide to part ways with the WWE.

#8 Dean Ambrose vs Cody

Yes, Dean Ambrose has already faced Cody in the WWE both as Cody Rhodes and his alter-ego Stardust. However, as we all know, Cody has totally reinvented himself since leaving the 'E and has since become one of the hottest acts in pro wrestling.

Despite Ambrose not getting much from creative in the last couple of years, he's still one of the most popular WWE Superstars around and Cody vs Ambrose would definitely by a huge match if AEW decided to go that way for All In 2 which also coincidentally takes place in Vegas where Ambrose resides.

#7 Dean Ambrose vs PAC

PAC

WWE could have done so much with the former-Neville. He had it all by the time he left - the ability both in the ring and the mic as well as the look. Neville came such a long way from the sort-of bland babyface who made his main roster debut to when he came back from injury as the 'King of the Cruiserweights'.

PAC doesn't back down from anyone and one person who won't be afraid to go toe-to-toe the Dragon Gate Champion will be Dean Ambrose.

#6 Dean Ambrose vs Minoru Suzuki

Can you imagine Dean Ambrose versus Minoru Suzuki? That match would be an absolute slugfest. On top of that, both men can go in the ring, so there no need for the match to be one-dimensional either. Suzuki versus Ambrose would also be the first time a member of Suzuki-GUN has faced a member of The Shield.

#5 Dean Ambrose vs Kota Ibushi

We take a look at another match for Ambrose in New Japan next; Ambrose vs one half of the Golden Lovers - Kota Ibushi.

Ibushi is one of the best in the world and could have a great match with a motivated Dean Ambrose. I honestly can't remember the last disappointing match Kota Ibushi had and there's no reason why this match won't be good. It would do well business-wise too since Ambrose if one of the bigger names of the modern WWE era and certainly one of the biggest names to have left the company since CM Punk.

#4 Dean Ambrose vs Tetsuya Naito

Tetsuya Naito is an enigma. The man is already great but destined to become one of the greatest New Japan Pro Wrestling has ever seen. If Dean Ambrose does sign a contract with NJPW, he has to face Naito at least once. Both men's characters don't take bull from anyone and certainly won't be afraid to get in each other's faces. This will also be the first time a member of the Los Ingobernables de Japon has faced a member of The Shield.

#3 Dean Ambrose vs Pentagon Jr

It was just announced that both Pentagon and Fenix have signed deals with All Elite Wrestling. As soon as I heard that I knew I wanted to see Pentagon vs Ambrose in All Elite Wrestling if the 'Lunatic Fringe' does also sign with them if he leaves WWE.

If anyone can take Dean Ambrose from his PG-form to what we know he's capable of, it's Pentagon.

#2 Dean Ambrose vs Kazuchika Okada

Kazuchika Okada

While some might say that Okada methodical styles may not be the best against Ambrose because a lot of Ambrose's slower-paced matches are dull, I counter that with saying that it won't be because the two of them won't be hampered by sticking to the "WWE style". New Japan Pro Wrestling know how to put together great matches and some of their best have started off slow but it's all about the storytelling and how they build on that start.

#1 Dean Ambrose vs Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega

Will Kenny Omega sign with AEW? Most probably yes although I can't tell you for sure. However, if both these men end up in AEW then the story writes itself. Both men will be two of the biggest free agents in pro wrestling with both of them reportedly having turned down WWE contracts - in Ambrose's case a new contract with the company.

This match would draw the attention of both hardcore fans and many, more casual, WWE fans. There's also no doubt that Kenny and Dean would tear the house down. It's a win-win for AEW.
