9 WWE Superstars who have pinned both John Cena and Roman Reigns

John Cena and Roman Reigns don't always win!

John Cena and Roman Reigns are not only the two most polarizing performers in modern-day WWE but also are two of the most difficult superstars to defeat via pinfall.

Although Cena has started losing more often in recent years, both he and Reigns have developed reputations for winning their high-profile matches and it’s still a surprise to see either man lose 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring.

With that in mind, we decided to do some research, looking through over 2,000 matches from the WWE archives, we found that only nine men have pinned both Cena and Reigns in matches over the years.

In this article, we take a look at all nine members of the elite club and reveal how many times they were able to defeat 'The Face That Runs The Place' and 'The Big Dog' via pinfall.

#9 The Big Show

Big Show
Big Show has had memorable moments with both Superstars

Pinned John Cena: Big Show and Cena first feuded in 2004 but it wasn’t until 2009 that 'The World’s Largest Athlete' pinned his long-term rival. He went on to gain four pinfall victories over the 16-time World champion on Raw in a 13-month span between March 2009 and April 2010.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Big Show has featured in plenty of matches with Reigns over the years, mostly in multi-man battles involving The Shield, but his one and only pinfall victory came in February 2015 when he got the 1-2-3 on Raw after interference from J&J Security and Seth Rollins.

#8 Chris Jericho

Pinned John Cena: Considering that Chris Jericho and Cena are two of WWE’s longest-serving Superstars, it’s a little surprising that Y2J has only pinned "Big Match John" on two occasions. The first victory was on SmackDown in July 2002, while the second came seven years later in a Triple Threat match involving Big Show on Raw in November 2009.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Jericho’s only pinfall victory over Reigns came when he teamed with Kevin Owens in a handicap match on Raw in January 2017. The numbers game was too much for “The Big Dog” and Y2J pinned him to win the United States title.

#7 Brock Lesnar

Pinned John Cena: Brock Lesnar has only pinned Cena once during his second run with WWE – the main event of SummerSlam 2014 – while he was able to defeat him via pinfall on two episodes of SmackDown and once on pay-per-view (Backlash 2003) during their early days on the main roster.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Lesnar and Reigns have met on three occasions in televised WWE matches. The most recent meeting (SummerSlam 2017, which saw Reigns, Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman challenge for the Universal title) was the only time “The Beast” recorded a 1-2-3 victory over “The Big Dog”.

#6 Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose has lost more than he's won against both men

Pinned John Cena: Dean Ambrose’s only pinfall win against Cena was on an episode of SmackDown Live in September 2016, three weeks before they challenged AJ Styles for the WWE title at No Mercy. “The Lunatic Fringe” won fair and square, totally clean, which made the victory even more surprising.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Ambrose and Reigns have met multiple times since The Shield initially split up, with “The Big Dog” usually coming out on top, but it was Ambrose who got the pinfall victory when the two collided alongside Seth Rollins in an all-Shield Triple Threat match at Battleground 2016.

#5 Sheamus

Sheam
Sheamus defeated John Cena in 2010 and Roman Reigns in 2015

Pinned John Cena: Sheamus and Cena have been heavily involved in WWE programming ever since their respective debuts in 2009 and 2002, yet their paths haven’t crossed anywhere near as much as you might expect. “The Celtic Warrior” has picked up just one pinfall win over Cena (Fatal 4-Way 2010) and that was largely down to The Nexus.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Sheamus’ one and only 1-2-3 over Reigns came in the aftermath of Survivor Series 2015 when he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to claim the WWE Championship just 5 minutes, 15 seconds after “The Big Dog” defeated Dean Ambrose to win the title for the first time.

#4 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens' first PPV match in WWE went quite well!

Pinned John Cena: As we’ve established so far, defeating Cena via pinfall is a pretty big deal. However, defeating him via pinfall, clean and in your very first PPV match in WWE? That’s a very big deal, and that's exactly what Kevin Owens did at Elimination Chamber 2015.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Owens has two pinfall victories over Reigns to his name, with the first one coming in September 2016 on Raw (thanks to interference from Rusev) and the second coming at the 2017 Royal Rumble (thanks to interference from Braun Strowman).

#3 Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins cashed in his MITB contract vs. Reigns and won the US title from Cena

Pinned John Cena: Seth Rollins has been involved in several feuds with Cena throughout the years. While he never got a 1-2-3 against him during his days in The Shield, he has defeated him via pinfall twice on Raw and, most famously, at SummerSlam 2015.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Nobody has won more matches against Reigns via pinfall than Rollins. “The Architect of The Shield” has pinned “The Muscle of The Shield” four times over the years, most memorably at WrestleMania 31 and Money In The Bank 2016.

#2 Bray Wyatt

B
Bray Wyatt was the second man, after Cody Rhodes, to pin Roman Reigns

Pinned John Cena: Bray Wyatt was involved in a five-month rivalry with Cena in 2014 but his greatest in-ring feats against “The Face That Runs The Place” came in 2017, when he pinned him twice in three days (Elimination Chamber and SmackDown Live) in WWE Championship matches.

Pinned Roman Reigns: Bray’s fiercest rival to date is arguably Reigns – a man he has lost to multiple times but also defeated via pinfall on four occasions. His first triumphs were in 2014 in matches involving The Wyatt Family and The Shield, and he also pinned Reigns in matches at Battleground 2015 and Survivor Series 2016.

#1 The Miz

The Miz won the Intercontinental title from Roman Reigns at Raw 25

Pinned John Cena: The Miz has picked up not one, not two, not three, not four, but five pinfall victories over Cena throughout his career. All five came between July 2010 and November 2011, with the most famous coming in the main event of WrestleMania XXVII.

Pinned Roman Reigns: It took over five years but The Miz finally recorded a 1-2-3 victory over Reigns in January 2018, winning the Intercontinental Championship in the process. One week later, due to interference from Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel, “The A-Lister” pinned him again to retain the title.
