Both men felt each other out in the early stages of the match before trading shoulder tackles. Sky took Jericho down with a dropkick and then clotheslined him out of the ring. He followed it up with a running boot at ringside to take control of the match.

Sky continued his dominance until Jericho hit his trademark dropkick to the apron to send Sky crashing out to ringside. Jericho followed Sky out to ringside and sent him head-first into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Scorpio Sky hit back with a neckbreaker to give himself an opening. Sky then headed to the top rope but this turned out to be a miscalculation. Jericho caught him on the way down and turned it into a Liontamer. Sky broke free and locked in a Dragon Sleeper of his own. Jake Hager came out at this point but SCU came out to even things out.

With the referee distracted by the commotion at ringside, Jericho tried to hit Sky with the title belt. Sky dodged it and hit Jericho with his finisher but it was only a nearfall. Jericho hit back with a Codebreaker for a nearfall of his own before locking in the Liontamer, forcing Sky to tap out.
