A legend indeed!
A legend indeed!

What's the story?

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, AEW Superstar Luchasaurus revealed that Dusty Rhodes gave him the idea for his gimmick.

In case you didn't know...

Luchasaurus is probably one of the more exciting talents recruited by AEW. While he has only been in the Casino Battle Royal at AEW Double or Nothing, he was one of the final four wrestlers in the ring. He made an impression with the wrestling fans and is certainly one of the bigger men in the upstart promotion.

He's mostly being closely featured alongside Jungle Boy as both wrestlers have become a duo as seen on Being The Elite. Luchasaurus was also featured on Lucha Underground where he competed several times on television. He was last seen accompanying Jungle Boy to the ring at AEW Fyter Fest.

The heart of the matter

During his interview, Luchasaurus spoke on how he got his start in professional wrestling as well as his time on Big Brother. He was also in developmental in WWE under the name Judas Devlin which didn't lead to anything but it was there where he was working alongside Dusty Rhodes. He went on to say;

When I was in developmental in WWE right before NXT kind of happened in the performance centre, I was working with Dusty Rhodes, Cody's dad, a lot of promos and he was one of the few guys who really believed in me because he saw this weird guy who had this master's degree and an interesting look and he didn't know how to place it...he knew there was something like this Luchasaurus in his head, we just couldn't put our finger and every week we tried something.

Luchasaurus said that when he got to Lucha Underground, they had a character which was akin to a giant snake and he wasn't sure how to go about it. After a conversation with Johnny Impact, he decided to run with it and the crowd in Lucha Underground dubbed him Luchasaurus.

Luchasaurus gave full credit to Dusty Rhodes for the idea behind the gimmick, which evolved over time. His current crazy character was something that the American Dream could only conceptualize. He went onto say that the character is also an ode to Dusty Rhodes.
