Braun Strowman faces Brock Lesnar at WWE No Mercy

What's the story?

Braun Strowman recently had an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated where he promoted his upcoming WWE Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar at WWE No Mercy. He also spoke about the possibility of having UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in the WWE and about his friendship outside the ring with Roman Reigns.

In case you didn't know...

Braun Strowman underwent surgery on his right elbow in May. He was initially expected to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WWE Great Balls of Fire, but Samoa Joe was forced to take his place because of the injury.

The Monster Among Men was also unsuccessful in an attempt to claim Monday Night Raw's most coveted prize in a fatal four-way match at Summerslam.

However, Strowman has now stated that he is back to full fitness in the ring and in the gym,

Six weeks after my surgery, I benched 455 for eight [reps]. I don’t do a whole lot of heavy squatting stuff anymore because my legs give out really fast and that slows me down in the ring. Mainly, a lot of the stuff I do now is just maintenance. I can’t do the crazy, heavy lifting on top of all the banging around and the travel eventually wears on you, so I just try to look good in the ring.

The heart of the matter

In the interview, Strowman said that Conor McGregor would fare well in 205 Live if he ever decided to try his hand at professional wrestling, stating:

McGregor might make it on 205 Live, but he doesn't want to step in the ring with me.

Strowman’s WWE run has largely been built around battling Roman Reigns. The two are close off-camera and share a dynamic chemistry when working together. He spoke highly of the 'Big Dog' and his work ethic in the ring.

Roman’s work ethic is just like mine. We go out every night, we give 100 percent of what we have to go, we put our bodies on the line and we know that, at the end of the night, we’re going to have you on your feet, you’re going to be hoarse, and you’ll be going crazy because we did our job entertaining you. From top to bottom, we’re the best athletes in the world.

Strowman also took a moment to send his best wishes for a quick recovery to the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, who Strowman has known for over a decade courtesy of his friendship with Charlotte Flair.

Ric is a man I’ve looked up to for a long time. I’ve listened and learned from Ric. Send a positive thought to him as he fights through this.

What's next?
