One of the best matches in 2017

A message from Jinder Mahal aired during AJ Styles' entrance. He claimed that he wanted SmackDown Live to win as long as Brock Lesnar put enough of a beating on Styles.

Lesnar manhandled the Georgia native at the beginning of the bout, peppering his foe with short knees to the gut. The Beast Incarnate then landed two suplexes in succession which left Styles gasping for air. The commentators made it a point to draw parallels between this match and Lesnar's destruction of John Cena at SummerSlam 2014.

At one point, the University of Minnesota product goaded Styles into throwing punches, only to dodge them and nearly decapitate the WWE Champion with a lariat. However, as Lesnar cut short Styles' first rally and positioned him for an F5, the former TNA man slipped out, infuriating Paul Heyman's favourite client.

Lesnar then missed a knee in the corner, giving Styles his first opening. The Phenomenal One connected with a DDT and a huge Pele Kick. The Georgia native then took a page out of CM Punk's book and chopped the Beast Incarnate down with a series of aerial manoeuvres, including an incredible 450 splash.

Lesnar attempted to reverse a Styles Clash into an F5, but he was trapped in a calf crusher. But just as it looked like the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was in a pickle, he managed to power out of the submission. Styles went on the offensive again and hit a Phenomenal Forearm for 2. The match didn't go on for much longer, however, as Lesnar reversed a second Phenomenal Forearm into an F5 to secure the win.

Brock Lesnar defeated AJ Styles to restore parity.
