It is well unanimously agreed by wrestling fans that Damien Sandow (real name Aron Stevens) was one of the most underutilized talents in WWE’s recent years. He was clearly not favoured by the WWE officials, but despite the odd gimmicks handed to him, he found a way to make it work some way or the other. The expression for it is “turning chicken crap into chicken salad”.
Despite him barely being featured on TV, he was always immensely popular and garnered more favourable reactions from WWE audiences than most superstars on the entire roster.Yesterday, Stevens responded to TNA’s tweet on a big addition to their roster being unveiled by saying “Huh, this is interesting. Time to make an #impact @IMPACTWRESTLING ...”
As expected, Stevens made his TNA debut on Impact Wrestling tonight. Sandow came out to his old "Hallelujah" theme and revealed that his new name is "Aron Rex”. Stevens, now Rex, said he wasn’t going to talk about his former employer and brass rings. He looked into the camera and said to his former employer "Don't worry, I won't talk about you".
Rex said that what he does is about the fans. He stated that some people thought he was too entertaining to be a main eventer. He is going to prove them wrong. Rex then began to talk about opportunity and what TNA represents.
According to Rex, TNA is the place where one can succeed based on talent alone. He then listed proof of all the top stars in TNA stars that have been given a fair chance in TNA like Drake, EC3, and even Broken Matt Hardy. He then stated his new name “Aron Rex” and said that Impact Wrestling is his new home.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stevens explained his signing with TNA:
“TNA just seemed like the perfect spot for me. They are a growing company with a proven track record. I really believe that they have their finger on the pulse of what the audience wants, and they will gear their product towards that. I really was not planning on signing with anybody this soon, I was serious about that. But the way the conversations went with several TNA officials, and the strong feeling of a family atmosphere, really made me want to explore the possibility of getting in the ring sooner than I expected."
He also expressed that TNA has more creative freedom, and in that regard, they are heading in the right direction. Are you excited to see Damien Sandow’s potential correctly utilized on Impact Wrestling?
