What’s the story?

Ring of Honor Chief Operating Officer, Joe Koff was recently asked by Fansided about the potential return of Daniel Bryan to the company. Koff stated that he would love to have the former ROH World Champion back and would welcome him with open arms.

It did not take Bryan long to respond to Koff’s comments, the Smackdown Live manager took it to Twitter and claimed that the situation to be ‘interesting’.

In case you didn’t know…

The Smackdown Live General Manager has been teasing a return to the ring for a long time, and it was reported that he has been training to get back into the ring.

Earlier this year, when Cody Rhodes won the ROH World Title, several superstars congratulated the former WWE star on Twitter but it was Bryan’s tweets that generated a lot of buzzes. Bryan tweeted out by saying that if Cody holds the belt for 462 days, then he might have to come after “The American Nightmare” and take the title off him.

Previously reported by WrestlingINC.com, Bryan has just over a year left on his WWE contract and as it stands, there is a huge possibility for him to wrestle once again.

Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer also noted that Bryan had some tests done back in April. While he doesn’t know the results, there is still a chance that WWE might allow him to step back into the squared circle.

The heart of the matter

In a recent interview with Fansided, Jeff Koff revealed that all former ROH wrestlers are more than welcome to return to the promotion and stated that the company will always remain as their home.

On 22nd September, Bryan once again took it to Twitter and labeled Koff's comments as 'interesting'. Judging by some of his recent tweets it is clear that the former ROH champion loves to get his fans excited regarding his possible return to the ring. However, it is still not clear if he is going to return to the company he last worked for [WWE] or will it be with the company which earned him his fame [ROH]. As of now, WWE doesn’t want fans to see the videos where Bryan is supposedly training for an in-ring return. This pretty much indicates that WWE might not be the company Bryan eventually makes his in-ring return with.

What’s next?

Bryan is currently the Smackdown Live GM, and so far he has done pretty well for himself as an on-air authority figure. However, it is no secret that the former WWE World Heavyweight champion himself would love to return to the ring. If Bryan does manage to get past medical tests in WWE, then there is hope that we might see him perform in the WWE once again and maybe even face the likes of AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura (whom Bryan referred to as his dream opponent).

Author’s take

I am a huge fan of Daniel Bryan, much like every other wrestling fan on this planet. Thus, I would also love to see him step back in the squared circle. But there could be major consequences for doing so, because of Daniel’s bad neck, that forced him to retire from the sport in the first place.

A return to Ring of Honor would be huge, and a match against Cody Rhodes for the World title will also turn out to be historic. If Bryan does sign with ROH, then there are chances that he would eventually go back to New Japan Pro Wrestling (due to ROH’s working relationship with NJPW). Personally, I would absolutely love to see Bryan back in NJPW and face the likes of Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito and the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada.
