5 Dream main roster opponents for NXT Superstars

Who would you want your favorite NXT superstar go up against on the main roster?
Who would you want your favourite NXT superstar to go up against on the main roster?

The dream for any NXT act is to one day ply their trade in front of bigger crowds on the main roster. They may fantasize of headlining WrestleMania's against top-tier talent but for most these will remain little more than dreams.

Nonetheless, that won't stop them from trying and the current crop of NXT talent has a huge amount of talent in their ranks. If any of these budding stars are to make it, here's who I feel would make the most sense as a dream opponent for them to square off against.

#5 Ricochet vs Rey Mysterio

These two have worked before outside of the WWE
These two have worked together before outside of the WWE

Ricochet is one of the premier high-flyers in wrestling today and so pairing him up with arguably the greatest high-flyer of all time is an obvious choice. Mysterio and the WWE still clearly have a working relationship, as we saw Mysterio pop up at the royal rumble and then the greatest royal rumble this year.

Ricochet could claim to be the greatest high-flyer in the world today, Mysterio can believe himself to still own that honour and the two could very easily set up a dream match that would tare down any house.

#4 Shayne Baszler vs. Bayley

The perfect foil to the bullying Baszler?
The perfect foil to the bullying Baszler?

Baszler has become the big bad bully of the NXT women's division. She is the champion and while no-one in that division seems a legitimate threat at the moment, there are plenty of potential rivals on the main roster. Bayley seems the best choice given her loving and innocent character that would make her a perfect foil for Baszler.

While WWE's bullying storylines are often pretty uncomfortable to watch, an underdog Bayley win could be the perfect way to end Baszler's bullying ways and is a much more believable candidate to do this than the likes of Dakota Kai.

#3 Aleister Black vs. The Undertaker

Will Undertaker's retirement ever come?
Will Undertaker's retirement ever come?

Aleister Black has an impressive aura surrounding him and still comes across as genuinely frightening. The only superstar who's managed to preserve this sort of fear factor over the course of their career is Undertaker, who still carries it with him today.

This could be a perfect passing of the torch feud for Undertaker when he finally does decide to call it a career. However, WWE would be smart not to try and turn Black into the next Undertaker and must keep what makes the sister man from Amsterdam original.

If creative went a similar route as the Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker feud where Wyatt claimed to be the new face of fear and obviously executed this feud far better than they did in that case, Black could take up the mantle as the scary grim reaper-like presence in the WWE without losing any of his original and organic edge.

#2 Johnny Gargano vs. Brock Lesnar

Who should finally end Lesnar's championship reign?
Who should finally end Lesnar's championship reign?

Gargano is essentially the perfect underdog babyface, right up their with the likes of Daniel Bryan. Like with Daniel Bryan, this sort of character is at its best when they are conquering insurmountable odds, as we've seen Bryan do to great effect.

Nobody is more invincible in the WWE right now than Brock Lesnar, having decimated the likes of John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns whilst putting together one of the most dominating championships runs we've seen. Gargano could be the plucky upstart who refuses to stay down and a feud between the two could be electric.

#1 Tommaso Ciampa vs. Daniel Bryan

Is there a bigger heel in wrestling than Ciampa?
Is there a bigger heel in wrestling than Ciampa?

Ciampa is arguably the biggest heel in all of wrestling right now. He is legitimately hated by the WWE universe and is turning out incredible matches like the one we saw between him and Gargano at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, on a regular basis.

Who better to have him face up against them than the most over babyface the WWE has had in recent times in Daniel Bryan. Ciampa could terrorize the returning superstar, as he has been teased on social media, and Ciampa's lack of size, which is probably only a problem in Vince McMahon's eyes, would be negated as Bryan is also on the small side.

Evil villain versus beloved hero is at the centre of all of pro-wrestling and putting arguably the best two of each role against one another simply could not fail.
