Pro Wrestling News: ECW legend on road to recovery, thanks to DDP

Justin Credible is expected to be back in action soon

What’s the story?

So, Justin Credible crashed back into the news again last week, literally, when he tried to take over an indie show while intoxicated.

Thankfully, there's better news emerging about the former WWE and ECW star with the New York Post reporting that Credible, real name Peter Polaco, has been sober since the incident and has enlisted the help of Diamond Dallas Page on the road to recovery.

In case you didn’t know…

Justin Credible is a former ECW Tag Team and World Heavyweight Champion who made a name for himself thanks to coupling the hardcore style of wrestling with exceptional ring awareness and execution,

He has been on the indie scene since 2006 after his release from WWE, where he found some success as a part of the Invasion and Alliance angles.

The heart of the matter

The NY Post reports that Polaco hasn't watched the video of his relapse last week and, after admitting being intoxicated on Twitter, Credible has taken to social media with a more uplifting outlook.

The former ECW and WWE wrestler has said watching the video won't help him and he wants to move past the viral video of him attempting an in-ring promo at a show in Connecticut while drunk last month.

“It’s not something that is going to uplift me. I try not to do negative things. I probably can imagine what I look like.” Polaco told NY Post.

The former World Champion believes it's 'make or break' this time around too “This time it’s a no-brainer and it’s a no choice because I can’t drink. I need to be sober or else I will die. It’s one of those situations.”

Polaco blames the mental strain of being in the business since he was 18 years old as a huge part of what started his problem, coupled with the relentless travel and the wear and tear on his body.

He pinpoints the beginning of his addiction to pain medication, choosing not to bring them on holiday and becoming violently ill for days.

“When I got home and I finally took some pain medicine, I was like ,‘Wow’. I felt better and felt normal. That’s what addiction is.”

He even lost 35 pounds doing DDP Yoga after his earlier drug addiction but fell into a trap of alcohol addiction after getting clean from drugs.

What’s next?

Justin Credible says he has been sober since the incident but has dealt with addiction in different forms for the past 15 years. He believes the next step for him is going to stay and train with WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page - a friend of the ECW legend for 20 years.

Polaco has also publicly apologised for the promotion of his public relapse and said his intention was to work an angle with legend Terry Funk.

Author’s take

It's always heartbreaking to see a wrestler relapse because I think we all appreciate how tough life on the road can be, but it's equally great to see someone at least try to overcome their demons and make positive strides towards that. DDP has helped many people, including most notably Jake "The Snake" Roberts, so hopefully Justin Credible can continue on his road to recovery. Best of luck to him!
