Why WWE fans should stop expecting CM Punk to return

CM Punk: Let the guy off the hook

Ever since the 27th of January this year the most discussed topic has been surrounded around a will he/ won’t he angle. This angle has been purely built up by the fans of the WWE. And if you are a fan of the WWE product- casual, ardent or intermittent- you will know that there is a certain wrestler called CM Punk, a man who had for a moment become the-man-who-must-not-be-named. But the chants have not died down yet. They are still audible and unedited (on live shows at the least). So the best WWE has done is acknowledge those chants once in a while. But I think it is best for business and best for the fans alike that we give up on thinking about his return.

Best for business

Okay, so if he eventually does decide to return then not expecting it can only heighten the moment for his fans. Just because of its un-believability, fans can invest more in the product and sit and notice what CM Punk has to say. Not to mention, that this will have already made Punk quite a rebel in front of the audience, not that he was not considered one before but his 5 + month absence does accompany a lot of unanswered questions. It makes Punk look like just another disgruntled employee who was fed up of the unsympathetic, capitalistic demands of the system. He left on his own accord. He did not leave as someone else, someone that the system could have forged, but he left as CM Punk- on his own terms where he refused to do whatever the company was handing over to him and left.

Best for the fans

If you are still hanging on to that last thread of your diminishing hope then calm your heart and take it for a walk. Just because AJ Lee has returned that does not mean that her betrothed or her better half or whatever will eventually show up.I mean, what if he has seriously retired? That means that he has, well, RETIRED. AJ Lee’s return will not change anything. Three years ago on July 17th, CM Punk provided us with one of his many memorable moments. And now, July 17th happens to be the date, some say, when his contract will expire. That means that he will no longer be contractually obligated to follow the company’s instructions. That means that we can finally ask him the questions we want the answers to. And he might just give us all the answers. The myth will be broken and thus we should all move on.

That old saying

There is this oft used quotation which says, “Leave at the top of your game. . .”

Well, Punk was not in the top of his game or rather maybe he was not allowed to be. But he was not at the bottom end of it either. He left while he was still one of the most popular superstars in the every arena they ever went. He wasn’t going to be at the main event at Wrestlemania but so wasn’t Daniel Bryan. But his exit prompted the WWE to use the most over guy in the WWE right now in the main event.

Three years ago, CM punk specified that he finally decided to sign a new contract because he realized that he won’t be able to change anything by sitting on his couch in Chicago. But this time around him sitting in his couch has somewhat and in some way brought a change to the product. That excludes John Cena being the champion, by the way.

We just need to accept his decision and move on. For everything lost, there is always the internet.
