Five strong candidates for the General Manager of Raw

Dare we hope?

The return of Vince McMahon to Monday night Raw was bound to be an exciting one. The Chairman showing up just weeks before the brand split carried huge expectations and Vince McMahon did not disappoint. Vince came out and announced that Stephanie McMahon will be the commissioner of Monday Night Raw when Shane McMahon will be the commissioner of SmackDown.

Not only this, Vince also said that both Stephanie McMahon and Shane McMahon could appoint general managers for their brands. So from the looks of it, both Raw and SmackDown will have a two-tier authority system and in this list, we are going to take a look at some of the names that could go on to become the General Manager of Raw.

Stephanie McMahon

The swerve

Let’s get one fact straight – the McMahons are obsessed with themselves and this is why we cannot rule out the possibility of Stephanie McMahon appointing herself as the General Manager of Raw. Unlike Shane, Stephanie is someone who will be on television frequently. So instead of letting someone else control her show, Stephanie taking things into her own hands will make a lot of sense.

Stephanie announcing her name will also be a huge swerve for the fans who will expect a surprise return or a new superstar in the mix. Destroying fan expectations like this will give Stephanie the heel momentum she needs before embarking on her journey through the brand split.

Triple H

A possibility

Triple H has been missing from the WWE programming for some time now. He needs a good enough reason to make his return and becoming the General Manager of Raw is a great reason. Stephanie appointing her husband as the GM of Raw is understandable, but at the same time, this option comes with certain drawbacks as well. First of all, Hunter is the onscreen COO.

Secondly, Hunter and Stephanie together on top of the power pyramid is an overworked angle. So in short, making Triple H the GM would not be a good idea unless WWE does something new like turning Hunter face while keeping Stephanie heel.

JBL

A heel that could take things forward

Stephanie is currently portraying a heel character, so the most sensible decision by her would be to appoint someone that goes by her rules and acts as a heel authority figure. JBL is not necessarily someone that falls into the heel category. But we all know how good JBL can be when he plays a full-blown heel. The biggest proof for this is the WWE championship run that he had in SmackDown years back.

If Stephanie announces JBL as the new General Manager of Raw, it will automatically classify him as a heel and from that point; JBL can easily take things forward.

Eric Bischoff

This could break the internet

Eric Bischoff is still in good terms with WWE. If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have had a recent DVD release with the WWE. Also, when asked about a potential return to WWE, Bischoff did not rule it out.

The fact that Stephanie needs a heel persona to take over the GM position of Raw makes Bischoff the best choice. Bischoff is a controversial choice that will immediately make headlines and this is what WWE wants to boost their brand split.

Despite the fact that he has been out of the WWE for a long time, Bischoff carries a lot of heat with him and if all of that manages to reach the audience, then this could end up as a successful outing.

Sting

Can he?

Sting is perhaps the only babyface on this list. If Sting shows up for the brand split as the general manager of Raw, he is bound to be cheered. The fans will treat him as a babyface GM who will work under a heel commissioner. This will not be digestible unless Stephanie McMahon provides her trademark ‘best for business’ promo where she could say that she is setting aside her differences with Sting for the business.

The dysfunctional relationship between Sting and Stephanie could be a long running angle on Raw as well. They could have monthly segments where Stephanie will evaluate Sting or do something creatively similar.
