From the WWE Rumor Mill: Major update on Daniel Bryan's contract status

Daniel Bryan is still yet to sign a new WWE contract
Daniel Bryan is still yet to sign a new WWE contract

What's the story?

When Daniel Bryan retired from WWE back in 2016, the company allowed him to continue to work his contract, which could be why it expires in September and he's still yet to sign a new deal.

In case you didn't know...

Bryan has been working towards the end of his contract over the past few months in the hopes that he could then join and Independent promotion if he wasn't cleared before his deal expired.

This obviously changed earlier this year when it was revealed that Bryan had been cleared for in-ring competition after two years on the sidelines.

Bryan has since been part of WrestleMania and been seen wrestling regularly, which means that he should be set to return to the contract that he had when he was an active performer.

The heart of the matter

Bryan is aware that his contract expires in September, but it appears that the former World Champion is in no hurry to sign a new deal.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Bryan is still yet to sign a new deal and could leave the company when it expires if he chooses to. transcript vis RingsideNews)

“He has not. His deal is still set to expire in September and if he does not, he could still walk out and go work elsewhere. Although my gut feeling is it’s not going to happen. He will probably sign a new deal.”

What's next?

Daniel Bryan recently lost to Rusev in his Money in the Bank qualification match this past week on SmackDown Live and since Big Cass didn't interfere in the match it's unknown what Bryan will be doing going forward.

Author's take

Bryan's circumstances have changed in recent months and it appears that he could be seeing where his current deal is taking him before he makes a decision on his future.

Bryan will probably sign a new contract in the future, but as for right now, it seems that could be waiting for this one out to see what WWE might offer him to stay.
