What's the story?

Shane McMahon has been embroiled in a feud with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens over the past few months, but it seems that McMahon could be set for a change of pace following Fastlane since his WrestleMania opponent is reported to be Dolph Ziggler.

In case you didn't know...

There were rumors a few months ago that Shane McMahon could have been set to face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania since the Commissioner and his General Manager have had a number of issues in recent months but it seems that Bryan is unable to be cleared to compete on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

The duo has recently clashed over the treatment of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, but it seems that in recent weeks that storyline has trailed off and could allow for Shane to step into something new after this weekend's Fastlane event.

The heart of the matter

Brad Shepard of Bodyslam.net recently reported on Backstage in WWE with Brad Shepard & Jon Fisher that the direction for Shane McMahon heading into WrestleMania could be changed following Fastlane since Dolph Ziggler is now the man he is scheduled to face. (Transcript via Ringsidenews)

“It looks like plans have recently changed and now Shane McMahon’s match, it sounds like his opponent will be Dolph Ziggler. From what I’ve been told, that’s what they are looking to do."

Shane McMahon and Dolph Ziggler haven't had any kind of interaction on WWE TV but it seems that this could be set to change in the coming weeks.

"Shane has got to have his match and Dolph has never had a singles match at WrestleMania. It will be a good match, that’s fine. Not everything I am dying to see but.. That will be something to watch for if they do go with that — we should start seeing that build soon.”

What's next?

Dolph Ziggler is part of the six-way WWE Championship match at Fastlane tomorrow night and a loss there could allow him to move on to a feud with Shane McMahon in the future.

Author's take

Shane McMahon was always going to have a match at WrestleMania it was just his opponent that remained a mystery up until now. Dolph Ziggler only recently signed a new WWE contract and it seems that he has been given a decent boost because of it, a singles match against the SmackDown Commissioner at WrestleMania is definitely something that many members of the SmackDown locker room would have fought for to be part of.
