From the Rumour Mill: The Shield could face The New Day at Survivor Series

The New Day may have bit off more than they can chew by invading Raw this week

The New Day may have bitten off more than they can chew by invading Raw this week

What's the story?

The New Day invaded Raw alone this week and managed to cost Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins their Tag Team Championships in the process, which could be setting up something much bigger in the future.

In case you didn't know...

Cesaro and Sheamus convinced Raw General Manager Kurt Angle to give them a match against Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose this week on Raw.

Before the match, Rollins and Ambrose were confident that they would be able to brush aside The Bar once again, as they did to lift the titles in the first place. The match then took place as the main event of Monday Night Raw but it wasn't the straightforward win that the Champions had hoped for.

The heart of the matter...

Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose were on top in their match against Sheamus and Cesaro, with a number of near falls throughout the match, but The New Day invaded and looked to have ended the main event.

Instead, The New Day just provided a distraction so that the Raw roster came to the ring and looked as though they were prepared for an invasion, but it was only Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston who had made the trip to the Manchester Evening News Arena.

There is still no word on why The New Day were there, but it seems that since all the five stars for the Survivor Series traditional elimination match have already named, then The Shield could be taking on The New Day in tag team action at the event and this match could be made official if Roman Reigns returns to Raw next week.

What's next?

Roman Reigns was reportedly advertised to return to Monday Night Raw next week, but there are still a few rumors that suggest that his return could be pushed back.

The beauty of this match is that if Reigns is unable to return before Survivor Series then the match can still be done with only four superstars.

If Reigns is able to return in time, then The Shield will still be able to have their long-awaited return match as a trio, against arguably the best (and only) another trio in WWE today.

Authors Take

The New Day had no business being on Raw tonight, they had no issues with Rollins, Ambrose, Cesaro or Sheamus. The winner of the match would go on to face The Usos, but now it seems that they have cost Rollins and Ambrose their titles and since Sheamus and Cesaro now have The Usos to deal with at Survivor Series, there is no way WWE would keep The Shield off the card.

This works out perfectly. The Shield have their 6-man tag match against a team they have never had a match against and the WWE Universe are able to see the reunion that illness prevented them from seeing last month at TLC.
