Has Drew McIntyre's potential torn bicep halted his call-up from NXT?

What's the story?

Drew McIntyre lost the NXT title at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in a great match against Andrade "Cien" Almas, however the major talking point after the match was a potential injury to the former NXT champion, which is now rumoured to have also delayed his call-up to the main WWE roster

In case you didn't know...

During the final moments of the match between Drew McIntyre and Andrade "Cien" Almas it looked like the, then, NXT Champion suffered an arm injury when he was hit with Almas' DDT finisher from the top rope.

McIntyre immediately grabs his arm following the pin, and the referee spends a long time discussing with McIntyre before declaring Almas the winner. After the match Triple H confirmed the injury concerns during a Facebook Live interview, around the 9 minute mark.

The heart of the matter

The injury stirred up a lot of doubt towards the intended finish of the match with many questioning whether or not McIntyre was supposed to drop the title, however it now seems that the match finished exactly how it was intended to finish, with the Almas DDT spot from the ropes, and that McIntyre picked up the injury literally in its last moments.

Cageside Seats go on to report that McIntyre dropping the title may have been because the WWE had plans to call the Scotsman up to the main roster, but that those plans are now on hold until the full details of McIntyre's injury are known.

What's next?

We're still awaiting official word from the WWE as to the full extent of Drew McIntyre's injury, although many believe it to be a torn bicep. If that's the case then McIntyre will need to undergo surgery to repair his arm and will be out of action for a number of months.

Author's take

Fingers crossed that McIntyre's injury won't be too severe and he can return soon, but if not then I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can hurry back as he was really starting to pick up some momentum for his second stint with the WWE and this injury will threaten to derail that.
