From the WWE Rumor Mill: Backstage notes on WWE hiring Jeremy Borash and the effect on Impact Wrestling

Jeremy Borash was the second person ever hired to work for TNA in 2002

What's the story?

Mike Johnson of PWInsider added some backstage information on WWE's hiring of Impact Wrestling play-by-play announcer Jeremy Borash, a story Sportskeeda reported on earlier. Johnson also included how this will affect Impact Wrestling going forward.

In case you didn't know...

Borash was with Impact Wrestling since its inception in 2002 when their weekly show would air every Wednesday on pay per view. He was the second person the company ever hired and he worked many positions within the company such as a commentator, video editor, and writer.

The heart of the matter

The hiring of Jeremy Borash was the call of Triple H according to numerous sources reporting to Johnson. He will be working within the developmental and NXT system going forward. It doesn't appear he was brought in for involvement with the 'Woken' Matt Hardy storyline, those special segments which he directed for Impact Wrestling.

Even though it is not the reason for bringing him to the WWE, they can still ask him to direct those special segments if and when they decide to do so in the Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt feud. There is talk that there will be a special filmed segment that starts at the Wyatt Family household and ends at the Hardy Compound.

With Borash leaving, things drastically change for the announce team on Impact Wrestling. The original plan was to make Josh Mathews more of a character with Matt Sydal as his advisor then pair Borash with Don Callis. At the time of this writing, it is unknown if they will cancel those plans with Mathews or bring in a new full-time play-by-play announcer.

What's next?

Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for the latest regarding the recent acquisition of Jeremy Borash by the WWE, including what he'll specifically be doing within the developmental and NXT areas of the company.

Author's take

This is a tremendous hire for the WWE. He did so many different things that were beneficial to Impact Wrestling, and for Triple H to realize he had an opportunity to hire him shows some great business acumen.

I'm excited to see what they do with Borash, and one idea that comes to mind immediately is pairing him with Mauro Ranallo and Nigel McGuinness on the announce team.
