What's the story?

Drew McIntyre has been off injured but a new update from PWInsider has suggested that the former NXT Champion is currently on the mend and has been seen training at the Performance Center, which means a return should be imminent.

In case you didn't know...

McIntyre lost the NXT Title and suffered an arm injury at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in a match against the now current champion, Andrade "Cien" Almas. It was later revealed that McIntyre has suffered a severe arm injury and would need surgery, sidelining him since November 2017.

The heart of the matter

PWInsider's report suggests that McIntyre has been seen working out in the ring at the Performance Center which means his arm is close to being fully healed after the surgery, as a result he is well on his way to being match-fit.

Former WWE NXT champion Drew McIntyre has been seen working out in the ring at the WWE Performance Center over the last several days, so he is coming closer to officially returning to action for that brand.

What's next?

PWInsider go on to suggest that Drew McIntyre's next course of action should be making it back for WrestleMania weekend to appear at the NXT TakeOver taking place. Whether or not he gets his title rematch or ends up doing something else we'll have to wait and see.

PWInsider.com had been told back in November that the timeline for McIntyre's return was sometime in April. Obviously, returning for Wrestlemania weekend, when the next NXT Takeover is set, is the goal. It appears he is on his way to making it.

Author's take

McIntyre was really getting his groove during his second tenure with WWE and had found a place to thrive in NXT, so much so that people were calling for him to be moved up to the main roster after WarGames. That might even be the plan for McIntyre going forward.
