What’s the story?

According to a report from Cageside Seats, Finn Balor could step in and face Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. The Beast Incarnate was initially rumoured to face Strowman, but the latter’s injury could force him to miss the match.

In case you didn’t know...

Finn Balor became the first ever Universal Champion by defeating Seth Rollins at Summerslam. The Demon King said on Miz TV at Payback that he intended to chase the Universal Championship once again.

The heart of the matter

Strowman will reportedly be out for anywhere between 4 to 8 weeks with an injury, so it is unlikely that he will return in time for Great Balls of Fire. The Monster among Men was initially set to defeat Reigns in an ambulance match and then make a run at the Universal Championship. However, those plans might be on hold for the time being. Apart from Finn Balor, other wrestlers rumoured to replace Strowman are Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe.

What’s next?

With the recovery time estimated to be between 4 to 8 weeks, Strowman will likely be unavailable for Extreme Rules. However, there still remains a possibility of Strowman wrestling at Great Balls of Fire.

Author’s take

This situation with Strowman is truly unfortunate as the injury came at a time when Strowman was being cemented as one of WWE's biggest stars. Hopefully, he makes a quick recovery, so he can continue to decimate the roster and make himself a star.

Also, with Dave Meltzer reporting that next year’s WrestleMania main event will be Reigns vs Lesnar for the Universal Championship, the company will probably hold off on the duo competing against each other and thus Balor can be dubbed as the ideal replacement to fight Lesnar.
