From the WWE Rumor Mill: Jinder Mahal not slated to win the WWE Championship at Backlash 2017

It looks like Randy Orton is going to end up being the one who hinders the Jinder, as the Maharajah's push seems to be coming to an end.

Jinder won’t be winning the WWE Championship, as per rumours

What’s the story?

As per CageSideSeats, the current plan is to have Jinder Mahal lose his Championship match against current WWE Champion Randy Orton at Backlash 2017. The rumour also states that Jinder’s push might be coming to an end soon.

In case you didn’t know...

Jinder Mahal has been in the midst of a push recently. After he won the six-pack challenge on SmackDown LIVE with the help of the Bollywood Boyz, the “Maharajah” became the #1 Contender for Randy Orton’s WWE Championship.

He has since been gunning for the title and even managed to steal it on one occasion, before attacking Randy Orton with it during Payback, causing Orton to lose the “House of Horrors” match in the process. Jinder was forced to return the title by Shane McMahon on the latest episode of SmackDown LIVE.

The heart of the matter

Jinder Mahal’s push has come as a big surprise to many, even though rumours have indicated that his push may not last very long, Jinder has been receiving constant screen time and his recent appearances have only added credibility to his challenge for the WWE title.

At the same time, however, with Randy Orton as the Champion and Jinder Mahal as the #1 contender, SmackDown LIVE recently received its’ lowest ratings of the year. Management could perceive this as a sign that current developments are not being received very well by the WWE Universe.

As per the latest round of rumours, not only is Jinder slated to lose the WWE Championship in his match against Randy Orton at Backlash 2017 but his push might also be coming to an end.

The rumours seem to point towards Jinder taking a step down from his temporary-top card spot and he might be used as a mid-card player from here on.

What’s next?

Jinder Mahal will be taking on Randy Orton at WWE’s Backlash 2017 pay per view. The event is set to take place on May 21st, 2017 at Rosemont Arena, Illinois, USA. The WWE Championship match doesn’t have any stipulations currently, but Jinder is expected to be accompanied by The Bollywood Boyz for the bout.

Author’s take

SmackDown LIVE is truly the land of opportunities and Jinder has seized the ones he has gotten with both hands. The man has done a decent job with the limelight that he has received and, I for one, certainly hope that he can go on to become a solid mid-card player on the SmackDown LIVE roster.

Jinder is still very young, being only 30 years old, and thus has his best years ahead of him. This is only the beginning for what could very well be an amazing career for the Canadian!
