What's the story?

The post-Christmas WWE Madison Square Garden Show is going to have a huge match on the marquee as, according to local advertising, John Cena will step up and take on Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Title.

In case you didn't know...

WWE always brings a big show to Madison Square Garden and this time around looks to be no different because Roman Reigns is set to defend his Intercontinental Title against John Cena.

Big Match John doesn't come back very often but the Madison Square Garden shows are always special occasions. After all, many consider it "holy ground" for WWE's history considering all the times the company, often simply called "New York" in the territory days packed MSG with historic matchups.

The heart of the matter

John Cena is going to put The Big Dog to the test once more in an attempt to take his Intercontinental title. It could very well happen, too, considering how AJ Styles snatched the United States title from Kevin Owens out of nowhere during their program. Considering how much WWE treasures this venue, anything is possible.

What's next?

If John Cena picked up the IC Title it could certainly give Roman Reigns a reason to focus on the Royal Rumble match. But who knows how WWE is going to book this one? They could go with a champion vs champion set-up like they did with Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan. After all, Vince McMahon loves a nostalgic moment.

Author's take

As the Road To WrestleMania rolls on, John Cena's plans need to be made a little bit more clear. Even if WWE doesn't put the IC title on Cena and Roman Reigns walks away victorious, the crowd in MSG are certain to get a great match.
