What’s the story?

As reported by The Observer, Brock Lesnar’s deal with the WWE runs out this April.

While the WWE could keep him as an employee until August, he’s not being advertised for a major WWE PPV event that’s set to take place this August.

In case you didn’t know…

Brock Lesnar is widely regarded as one of professional wrestling/ sports-entertainment’s most valuable performers—particularly as far as brand value and box office collections are concerned.

Lesnar, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, competed at UFC 200 while still under contract with the WWE back in 2016. Additionally, the Beast Incarnate is rumored to be looking forward to having a few more MMA bouts in the UFC this year.

The heart of the matter

As we’d previously reported, UFC President Dana White asserted that Brock Lesnar could indeed return to the UFC this year.

Lesnar’s current contract with the WWE is set to expire in April, and WWE can only keep him with the company for a few more months. Lesnar will be completely free of his WWE deal in August, and experts believe that he could return to the sport of MMA in the latter half of this year.

Furthermore, the aforementioned speculation is being further accentuated by the fact that the WWE has sent out SummerSlam 2018 travel packages that don’t include Lesnar.

What’s next?

The reigning WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is set to defend his title in a Triple Threat Match against Braun Strowman and Kane, with the matchup taking place at the Royal Rumble PPV.

While Lesnar will perform at the Royal Rumble which takes place on Sunday, January 28th, his WWE status for SummerSlam which will transpire from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on August 19th, remains unclear.

Author’s take

Brock Lesnar has nothing left to prove in the sport of MMA.

Lesnar has suffered two bouts of diverticulitis over the course of his life, and given the manner in which his UFC career was adversely affected after his illness, it’d be safe to say that the Beast would be better off re-signing with WWE working a part-time schedule for the sports-entertainment company.
