From the WWE Rumor Mill: "Woken" Matt Hardy has Vince McMahon's support

A new
A new version of Matt Hardy to the WWE

What's the story?

According to a report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, is reporting on some information a contact from the WWE told him regarding the "Woken" Matt Hardy gimmick. It seems that Vince McMahon has given his full support on the character which started to surface completely on the November 27th edition of Monday Night Raw.

In case you didn't know...

For those who don't follow Impact Wrestling, the Broken Matt Hardy character was one of the most talked about gimmicks of professional wrestling in a long time. It became so popular on Impact that there were specially directed segments, matches and even an entire edition of Impact dedicated to the Broken Brilliance.

The heart of the matter

Barrasso would further go into detail regarding McMahon's support with the quote below:

"A contact within WWE reached out to inform Sports Illustrated that Hardy will be allowed a creative license by McMahon, who sees opportunity and the opportunity to cash in on a character that is already established."

It was just last week that Anthem released a statement to Sports Illustrated stating that they would no longer pursue legal action for the rights to the Broken Hardy gimmick. They were quoted as saying they "have seen the character development and will be interested where they (WWE) take the concept."

The statement came on the heels of Anthem announcing that they would allow all of their talents the ability to use their characters with other companies after leaving Impact Wrestling.

What's next?

Expect the feud between Woken Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt to continue on the next edition of Monday Night Raw on December 11th.

Author's take

I am beyond excited that this "version" of Matt Hardy is finally here. Hearing the pop of the WWE Universe when a "Woken" Matt Hardy interrupted Bray's usual dark promo on the Titantron was DELIGHTFUL!

Knowing that Matt has Vince's blessing for the creative liberties of this gimmick makes me a very happy man and I look forward to seeing "Woken" Matt Hardy on the next edition of Monday Night Raw!
