What's the story?

A number of local advertisements in Chicago suggest that this year's Money in the Bank (MITB) pay-per-view could have three of the eponymous ladder matches for the first time in its history.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter weighed in on these advertisements and stated that he expected the third to be a tag-team ladder match.

In case you didn't know...

The Money in the Bank match made its first appearance at WrestleMania 21. These matches grew in popularity and became an integral part of the Show of Shows until WWE decided to give them their own pay-per-view.

The inaugural Money in the Bank show took place in 2010 at the Sprint Centre in Kansas City, Missouri.

The heart of the matter

Last year's show featured the first-ever Women's Money in the Bank ladder match, which was won by Carmella thanks to a big assist from James Ellsworth.

It looks like this year's pay-per-view could also prove to be historic with the introduction of the first-ever tag-team Money in the Bank ladder match.

What's next?

Money in the Bank will take place on June 17, 2018, at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Even though it will have three big ladder matches, the show will probably be headlined by a Brock Lesnar title defense.

Author's take

Over the last 13 years, the Money in the Bank contract has become an integral part of the WWE landscape, enabling several top stars such as Edge, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, and Dean Ambrose to win their inaugural world titles.

However, one has to wonder if having three Money in the Bank contracts around at the same time could dilute its value.
