From the WWE Rumor Mill: Real reason why WWE is getting the Shield back together

The Shield is primed to reunite

What’s the story?

On a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, veteran professional wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer noted that the primary reason behind the WWE getting the Shield back together was the absence the promotion’s two top stars, John Cena and Brock Lesnar, heading into RAW’s TLC PPV.

On that note, Meltzer revealed that the WWE higher-ups were of the opinion that in the absence of Cena and Lesnar, the company lacked a big draw around which they could build the TLC pay-per-view. Hence, as of this time, reuniting the Shield is a considerably viable option for the WWE.

In case you didn’t know…

The Shield is widely regarded as one of the most popular professional wrestling stables of all time.

The faction comprised Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins who wreaked havoc on the WWE roster from 2012-14, following which each individual from the group broke through as top singles competitors in the promotion.

The heart of the matter

On the most recent episode of Monday Night RAW, the WWE teased a potential Shield reunion, which in turn has led several industry pundits to speculate about the team’s reunion being a done deal, soon to be highlighted in the days to come.

In light of Brock Lesnar having worked his last dates for the WWE before the Royal Rumble early next year, and John Cena being busy with his Hollywood obligations, Meltzer explained that the WWE is most definitely going forward with the Shield reunion as a major storyline heading into RAW’s TLC PPV on the 22nd of this month.

What’s next?

The Shield reunion is expected to play a major part in the weekly episodes of Monday Night RAW heading up to the RAW brand-exclusive TLC pay-per-view which will take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 22nd.

Author’s take

Well, given the fact that Minneapolis is billed as Lesnar’s hometown, it’s a tad surprising to see the WWE not bring its Universal Champion to a hero’s welcome in the place that made him.

Regardless, with Brock and John out of the picture going into TLC, the Shield coming back together does bring a certain amount of excitement and will make for fun viewing in the buildup to the show.
