From the WWE Rumor Mill:  Reason why five NXT women were called up to the main roster

Sarah Loga
Sarah Logan, Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, Mandy Rose, and Sonya Deville all made their mark this week

What's the story?

According to a report from Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, 5 women were called up to the main roster from NXT because Vince McMahon felt that the women's division's on Raw and SmackDown were getting stale.

In case you didn't know...

On Monday Night Raw this week, Paige made her long-awaited return to the WWE, but she didn't come alone as Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville joined her to attack the four women who were vying to become #1 contender for Alexa Bliss' WWE Raw Women's Championship.

On SmackDown Live this week, Naomi was talking with someone backstage when Ruby Riot, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan interrupted and attacked her. Becky Lynch tried to make the save but was laid out as well. Later on in the evening, the trio would interrupt the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Natalya.

The heart of the matter

According to sources close to Satin, Vince McMahon believed that the women's division was getting stale and was in need of a boost. This call was made shortly after the Mae Young Classic, and McMahon waited for the right moment to execute the plan.

The first name mentioned for the call-up was Mandy Rose, as her name was mentioned in the past for potential debuts. Rose made a few appearances on NXT after finishing as a runner-up on the 2015 edition of Tough Enough.

Speculation is that the call-ups were made to buffer the roster for a potential first-time ever women's Royal Rumble in January, but Satin states his sources claim there isn't anything to those rumours as of now.

What's next?

Expect to hear from some, if not all, of the five women on the upcoming editions of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live. There could be retribution from the women they attacked as well.

Author's take

Excited was my immediate reaction to the debuts as I am a fan of all five women. They each bring a different skill set to the women's division. My immediate speculation was that this is all a part of the plan to set up the first-ever women's Royal Rumble, but the women's division has been stuck in neutral for a while now.

With so many firsts in the women's division over the past couple of years, I really hope the Royal Rumble for the women is a reality.
