From the WWE Rumor Mill: Update on Jason Jordan's injury and Royal Rumble status

The
The WWE Raw Tag Team Champions join the Peep Show on Raw 25

What's the story?

Dave Meltzer provided an update on one-half of the WWE Raw Tag Team Champions, Jason Jordan, on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. Over the past few weeks, Jordan has not wrestled due to an undisclosed injury, but some light was finally shed on what was ailing him.

In case you didn't know...

Before Rollins and before American Alpha, Jason Jordan teamed up with Tye Dillinger in 2014 before Tye became known as the fan-favorite 'Perfect 10'. The team would only last six months as Jordan would turn heel due to the lack of success the team was having.

The heart of the matter

The reason Jordan has been out of in-ring competition the past few weeks is because Jordan is dealing with a bad back. Jordan's last match for the WWE was on the January 8th edition of Monday Nigh Raw when he teamed with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a losing effort against the Balor Club.

Meltzer did state that the plan is still for Jordan to defend the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships with Rollins against The Bar at the Royal Rumble. At the time of this writing, it is unknown whether he will enter the Royal Rumble Match or not. It could be decided on the fly depending on how his back feels and how the team does.

If Rollins and Jordan lose, it is more likely that they will appear in the Royal Rumble match.

What's next?

The Royal Rumble is just around the corner. It will take place from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this Sunday evening. In addition to the men's and first ever women's Royal Rumble Match, four championships will be on the line.

The aforementioned Raw tag titles will be defended along with their counterparts on SmackDown when The Usos take on Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable in a two-out-of-three falls match.

The WWE Championship will be defended by AJ Styles in a handicap match against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens; while the WWE Universal Championship will be defended by Brock Lesnar in a triple threat match against Kane and Braun Strowman.

Author's take

Hopefully Jordan will be able to go at full speed this Sunday at the Rumble because he's a very talented wrestler. While the entire storyline of being Kurt Angle's son started off slow, Jordan is really coming into his own on his way to fully turning heel.

I expect The Bar to regain the tag title at the Rumble, and would love to see Jordan carry out a surprise elimination of both Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to further progress the heel turn.
