What's the story?

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were scheduled to face each other at WrestleMania next month but after being fired by Daniel Bryan on this week's SmackDown Live, the company has changed the card to reflect this.

In case you didn't know...

Shane McMahon, Owens, Zayn and Bryan have all been part of a storyline on SmackDown Live dating back to Zayn and Owens' original alliance at Hell in a Cell in October.

Things reached their boiling point when McMahon cost Owens and Zayn the chance to become WWE Champion as part of the main event at Fastlane. The Commissioner then announced last week that he was stepping down from his position and even gave Zayn and Owens a match against each other at WrestleMania before the duo unleashed a vicious attack on their boss.

It was officially announced that Daniel Bryan had been cleared to return yesterday and he was charged with the task of responding to the assault of the SmackDown Commissioner, where he was forced to fire his longtime friends.

The heart of the matter

It seems that WWE.com has now been changed to reflect the fact that Zayn and Owens have been fired from the company since their profiles have been moved over to the alumni section of the site. Their match that was announced last week for WrestleMania has also been moved from the official event listing since it is now speculated that the duo will be having a different match at WrestleMania.

The build-up to the speculated tag team match that will see McMahon and Bryan take on Owens and Zayn has already begun building with the attack on the SmackDown General Manager and it seems that it could be officially announced in the coming weeks, now that Bryan has been declared medically fit to compete.

What's next?

It is unknown if Shane McMahon or Daniel Bryan will be on SmackDown Live next week after the attacks they have been victims of in recent weeks, but it is thought that their match at WrestleMania will continue to build.

Author's take

It's great when WWE continues a storyline after the show has finished and it seems that the company is making it seem as though the duo have actually been fired. It will be interesting to see what lengths they will go to in the next week to get their jobs back though. It seems that WrestleMania has become exciting once again and all eyes will be on SmackDown in the coming weeks.
