What's the story?

WWE is embroiled in a defamation lawsuit against Colt Cabana and CM Punk. Ringsidenews have shared the date as to when the trial is set take place.

In case you didn't know...

Dr Chris Amann, a senior physician for the WWE had sued Cabana and Punk after the former WWE champion had spoken about his exit from the company and more during Cabana’s podcast a few years ago.

Punk also spoke about a number of incidents and one such event was Amann misdiagnosing an MRSA infection.

In fact, the doctor also reportedly refused to diagnose a concussion and also over-prescribed antibiotics, according to Punk.

The heart of the matter

The report carries an image of the court documents which suggests the case will go to trial on 21 May.

Initial dates in the document claim that the proceedings began from 27 June 2016, so this case has been in the works for a while.

Attorneys Deutsch Levy and Engel filed a deposition in the court on behalf of the WWE doctor, so there could be a lot of activity in the coming days.

What's next?

While the date for the trial is on 21 May, there will be a lot of back and forth as the case goes to trial and an order is passed out.

Author's take

The case was reported a while back and hopefully, we can see an end to this case sooner rather than later.

Punk and Cabana have had to deal with a lot of issues and the defamation case from Amann has hurt Cabana especially as he spoke about the financial implications and how this has had a taxing effect on him mentally.

If Punk can prove his allegations against Amann, the case could take a very interesting turn indeed.
