What's the story?

People have been wanting to see the clash between The Undertaker and John Cena at 'The Grandest Stage of Them All'.

As reported by Cageside Seats, WWE will set up the match between 'The Phenom' and 'The Cenation Leader' after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

In case you didn't know...

The Undertaker laid his hat, coat, and gloves down in the middle of the Orlando ring after losing to Roman Reigns and we looked to have witnessed the end of one of the greatest careers in WWE history.

Since there was no official confirmation from WWE regarding the retirement, fans speculated that The Undertaker will return for one more match at 'The Showcase of the Immortals'.

The heart of the matter

According to Dave Meltzer, The Undertaker wanted a match against Cena at WrestleMania 33 but Vince pushed for Reigns as ‘Taker's opponent considering the long-term needs of the company as opposed to the short-term.

During Survivor Series PPV, The Undertaker was backstage in great shape. This started the rumor of The Undertaker getting ready for another match at WrestleMania. The Undertaker made an appearance on RAW's 25th-anniversary show on 22 January 2018 and delivered a confusing promo.

Cageside Seats reported today that according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Undertaker vs. John Cena was still planned as of a couple weeks ago, but obviously, an angle won’t be shot until after Elimination Chamber if it's still the desired direction.

What's next?

This year, the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view will be held at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on February 25. The Elimination Chamber will be the last pay-per-view for RAW before WrestleMania and WWE will set up the match between The Undertaker and John Cena after Elimination Chamber.

WWE would be very interested in getting 'The Phenom' booked for one last time at WrestleMania considering his good shape after hip surgery. Cena, on the other hand, is involved in a feud with Elias which will probably culminate at Elimination Chamber. Dave Meltzer also reported that the plans for Cena are much bigger than WWE Championship at WreatleMania and that can very likely be a match against 'The Deadman'.

Author's take

It seems that the long-awaited rivalry with John Cena will happen after the 'Elimination Chamber'. This is one of those matches I wanted to see on WrestleMania card since my childhood and I am really excited for this. John Cena is one of the safest workers in WWE and can carry 'The Deadman' throughout the match without much risk.

The Undertaker has given so much to this business and its time he should lace up his boots one last time against an opponent of his choice.
