From the WWE Rumour Mill: Chris Jericho could appear at Royal Rumble match

Is the WWE Universe in for a huge surprise?
Is the WWE Universe in for a huge surprise?

What's the story?

January could be a busy month for Chris Jericho, not only is he challenging Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 for NJPW but now there is speculation that he could still make an appearance during WWE's Royal Rumble match

In case you didn't know...

Chris Jericho made a huge buzz in the wrestling world when he sensationally challenged Kenny Omega to a match at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 in a move that no-one saw coming, with Jericho being an avid pro-WWE guy.

The heart of the matter

Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has added fuel to the fire of what Jericho will do after the Wrestle Kingdom, by suggesting that he could on his way back to the WWE a lot sooner than we all thought.

As per Cageside Seats, Meltzer has noted that Chris Jericho appearing at the Rumble is a possibility and certainly not something that should be written off, even with his match for NJPW earlier in the month.

It's also worth noting that despite Jericho being unavailable for this year's Wrestlemania thanks to Fozzy tour dates, his schedule does currently mean that he's free on the day of the Rumble with a gig taking place in France the night before.

What's next?

If Jericho was going to make a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble then he would almost certainly need to lose his match against Omega at the Wrestle Kingdom 12, otherwise there would be a whole ton of red tape and negotiations needed for NJPW to let their current US Champion, a belt they're trying to push, appear for the WWE.

Author's take

If Jericho does surprise everyone and appear in the Rumble as well as compete at the Wrestle Kingdom there's a change his popularity levels could soar through the roof. I'm certainly not ashamed to admit that I would mark out if it happened.
