What's the story?

WWE might be set to have the longest match in the history of their company this Friday at the Greatest Royal Rumble event, which is set to take place in Saudi Arabia.

Mike Johnson of PW Insider, speculated on his show PWInsider Elite (H/t Ringside News), that the Greatest Royal Rumble match may be set to go on for a minimum length of 98 minutes with the entrances.

In case you didn't know...

The record of the longest match in WWE history was held for over 53 years by the biggest star of WWE in 60's, Bruno Sammartino. The recognised holder of the record for the longest Championship reign as well, Bruno was able to keep hold of the record of the longest match in WWE's history at 81 minutes.

This record stood for a long time, until it was smashed in 2018, by the Raw Gauntlet Match a few weeks ago. At 146 minutes and 55 seconds, the Raw Gauntlet match looks seemingly indomitable in its position as the longest WWE match of all time, but this record may not stand for very long.

The heart of the matter

Johnson was discussing the Greatest Royal Rumble match that is set to take place at Saudi Arabia on Friday, when he indicated that with the entrances, the match had a minimum run-time of 98 minutes. This means that it will be 98 minutes before the last entrant of the match has entered the 50-man Royal Rumble match.

It also means that if the minimum time for the match is 98 minutes, it is likely that it will go on for a much longer time, before the last Superstar is eliminated and there is only one person left standing in the ring. Due to this, there is a huge possibility that WWE will break the record for the longest ever match, which they set earlier in the year with the Raw Gauntlet Match.

What's next?

The Greatest Royal Rumble event is set to take place at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday, the 27th of April. It will be the host to a number of big matches, including the 50-man Rumble Match, as well as a Casket Match between the Undertaker and Rusev, and a match between Triple H and John Cena.

Author's take

WWE is already set to break the record for the largest Royal Rumble Match with this event. It only remains for the fans to see if they will break any more records during this match.
