From the WWE Rumour Mill: Real reason why female legends returned for the Royal Rumble

So did the still so gorgeous Lita return?
So why exactly did legends like Lita return?

What's the story?

This update was first confirmed by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer on his official boards, and later posted on Cageside Seats. If you were wondering why so many legends came back for the Women's Royal Rumble, here's the reason.

A special documentary is being filmed about the Women's Revolution. Little wonder then, that the women who had paved the way for the female WWE Superstars of today were all in attendance.

In case you didn't know...

The first ever Women's Royal Rumble took place at the Wells Fargo Arena, this past weekend. It was eventually won by Asuka and featured many legends from the company's glorious past.

Among the women that returned were Trish Stratus, Lita, Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly, etc., among many others. Now we know why WWE brought so many of them back into the fold.

The heart of the matter

It is but natural that WWE would want to film this historic night, featuring the past, present and future of their Women's Division. Together, these women fought against all odds to bring the division at par with the men of the company.

We suppose that the documentary that is being filmed will be used for a Network Special. WWE always does a great job of highlighting special events through these documentaries. They make the WWE Network feel like a real worthwhile investment.

What's next?

The Women's Royal Rumble is in the past. The next stop is the Women's Elimination Chamber match. Alexa Bliss will defend her Championship inside the dreaded steel structure.

Author's take

I really do want to check this documentary out, when it releases. I've been a fan of most of these women for a long time, and would love to hear about their experience in this really historic match.

WWE never disappoints with their amazingly produced Network Specials.
