What's the story?

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter and PWInsider have both independently confirmed that Ricochet is expected to sign with the WWE anytime now, and an announcement on this should be coming very soon.

In case you didn't know...

Ricochet has been slowly finishing up all of his independent wrestling dates, making his last NJPW appearance last year at the King of Pro-Wrestling show and posting this heartfelt goodbye interview on social media.

The heart of the matter

At this point, it's practically a given that Trevor Mann is signing for WWE, especially when you take into account all of the signs. As well as wrapping up his obligations with NJPW and Lucha Underground Ricochet has told independent promoters he won't take any dates after January and has reportedly turned down a deal with Impact Wrestling.

He also wrapped up his scheduled dates with popular indy promotion PWG, as evidenced by this farewell sendoff the entire locker room gave him at their most recent event Mystery Vortex V.

The high-flying Superstar is expected to be part of an intake that also includes popular indy tag-team War Machine.

What's next?

I think the current expectation regarding Ricochet is that he debuts at the Royal Rumble similar to AJ Styles blew off the roof in 2016 when he made his way to the ring as the #3 entrant in the match. What happens after that is anyone's guess, although many people are joking that the WWE would just stick him in 205 LIVE.

Author's take

I'm excited! Ricochet is an incredible athletic talent as evidenced by his ridiculous, yet entertaining matches with Will Ospreay in the NJPW Super Juniors tournament, or, in fact, as evidenced by any of his matches in general. He could be a big star in the WWE if used properly.
