What's the story?Global Force Wrestling announced a streaming service on last night's broadcast of Impact Wrestling. In case you didn't know...Global Force Wrestling was founded by Jeff and Jerry Jarret in 2002, under the banner of NWA [National Wrestling Alliance] and was known as Total Nonstop Action. It was taken over by Anthem Sports and Entertainment earlier in 2017 and became known instead as Impact Wrestling, until the time they acquired the original Global Force Wrestling. Since then it has assumed the name of GFW and has had a relationship with ITV, their partner in the United Kingdom for broadcasting. The heart of the matterGlobal Force Wrestling now have announced that they will soon launch Global Wrestling Network, their own over-the-top streaming service which will be available worldwide on multiple platforms. The platform will have the Impact Wrestling episodes available for free as well as other features.GFW also announced that "sooner rather than later" they will be returning to television in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.ReactionsThe fans reacted to the announcement of the new network on twitter and seemed unsure about what to make of it.Wait did they just announce the #GFW Global Wrestling Network will be released this September 2017 during LowKi match? #IMPACTonPOP #GWN— ?LB_OneOfKind ?? (@LBOneOfKind) September 1, 2017Did any of my GFW homies/homegirls listened to Matthews mentioned something about GLOBAL WRESTLING NETWORK? Any ideas— Jorge L. Martinez Jr (@Always_jorge) August 18, 2017Hey, alright. GFW network coming with free eps of Impact. That could help.— Nerds and Marks (@NerdsAndMarks) August 18, 2017Other fans were not so optimistic, making snarky comments about the network.GFW launching their own version of the WWE Network. Catch all 6 or 7 months of their history and immense back catalogue! #TNAwful— Kyle Scharf (@Mister_Gore) September 1, 2017GFW is planning to air their own version of the WWE Network. That is not trying to be WWE whatsoever.— #Canada150 (@MauriceBear21) September 2, 2017Author's takeWith streaming networks getting more and more popular, GFW has chosen the right time to make a move. The problems they may face are many, however, as there is a huge chance that they may not get the number of subscribers that they want. With this being an obvious alternative to WWE Network, they may face the same problems that WWE did and not get as many subscribers as they aim for. Hopefully, for them, they will be successful, but only the most hardcore hundred or so GFW fans will be buying their network at the moment, with the obvious lack of star power on their roster.
