GFW/ROH News: Dalton Castle talks about choosing between ROH and GFW
What's the story?
Dalton Castle has become a fan favourite where ever he has gone up to this point. His enthusiasm in the ring is matched by his ability to entertain and he's very good at what he does. He recently spoke to Colt Cabana's Art Of Wrestling about the difficult decision he had to make between choosing ROH and GFW.
In case you didn't know...
Dalton Castle has captured the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship and the attention of fans where ever he's gone so far.
His gimmick is an androgenous mixture of Gorgeous Gearoge and Freddy Mercury. He also hosted a radio show for three years during a five-hour afternoon slot using the flamboyant gimmick in the past so he's very committed to his character.
Castle did compete for GFW/Impact Wrestling/TNA in 2015 at X-Travaganza 3 and TNA Gut Check but found much of his success in Ring Of Honor.
The heart of the matter
Dalton was recently faced with a difficult decision when he was presented with two contracts to acquire his services at the same time. In the end, Castle chose to stay with ROH but the offer to take his talent to GFW was tempting. After all, GFW was able to offer a lot more money, but he decided to stay where he could experience more creative freedom in ROH.
He spoke to Colt Cabana quite candidly about the subject. Thanks to Wrestling Inc for the transcription. Dalton said there was a time when he had an offer on the table from both ROH and Impact Wrestling. It was a tough decision to make but he did what was best for his career.
"Alls we want to do is make a living doing this and I go so long with no offers, nothing, like it's never going to happen, and, suddenly, two offers are on the table and one of them, one of them was not a living, and the other one, I mean, it was a decent salary, but it wasn't the place I felt like I wanted to be and I didn't have the best experience. Everyone was super nice, but I just didn't feel… [Cabana knows] Ring Of Honor is kind of hands-off when it comes to your character and creativity. I didn't feel like that was going to happen down there [at GFW]."
Dalton Castle handled his decision with class and professionalism as he went on to explain how he dealt with turning a decent offer down. He said he did it in the best way possible and simply explained things to Impact Wrestling.
" I don't feel like I made a mistake. But, at that time, they were really trying to make me feel regretful. And that almost solidified my decision-making, like, 'why would I want to work for somebody who wants to hurt me just because you can't give me what I need, so you're telling me I'm making a mistake?'"
Dalton Castle will continue to hone his craft to be the best performer possible. It wouldn't be surprising to see him take it to an even bigger level eventually. The 31-year-old pro wrestling star still has a lot of fuel left in the tank.
The first time I saw Dalton Castle, I have to admit I didn't know what to think. But as soon as the bell rang, I was taken on a great journey in the ring thanks to this gifted young athlete.
He might have turned down a bigger contract when he decided to stick to his creative inspiration but it appears to be paying off quite well thanks to his determination to excel in the world of professional wrestling.
