How AJ Lee ruined the Divas Divison

Aj Lee

AJ Lee has been apart of The Divas title picture ever since she won the coveted strap back at Payback in 2013, but is the WWE focusing so much time and effort on one diva best for business? Or is it detrimental to the other talent in The Divas locker room?

Feuds With A Predictable Outcome

A good feud should focus on two things. A viable storyline that entices the fans watching at home, and do its best to make sure both superstars involved in the feud retain their credibility as a threat in The WWE. By having one superstar, or in this case, Diva, constantly coming out victorious over all other competitors, it starts to make the rest of The Division look like a joke and looks boring to fans.
Take Night of Champions in 2013 for example, lee was put in a fatal four match for her Divas Title against Naomi, Brie Bella and Natalya, but still managed to walk out of the pay per view as Divas Champion. Another example is at WrestleMania 30, where Lee outlasted 13 other competitors in The Vickie Guerrero Invitational, by making Naomi tap out to The Black Widow for the victory.
In neither of these matches were there even any type of storyline at all. The night of Champions bout was clearly just a clever trick by WWE to keep its Total Divas stars in the hunt for the title and on TV for promotion, while having their real star, dominate and win in the end. The WrestleMaina 30 match seemed like WWE Creative just ran out of ideas and decided to throw every Diva on the roster at Lee, only to have her conquer the division in the end.

Did Lee Ruin The Divas Division?

The problem with all of this lies in the fact that while Lee is on top of the world in The Divas Division, who is being groomed to be the next girl on top? After her dominating 295 day reign as champion, not many Divas have the credibility to face Lee, especially after suffering multiple losses to her the year before. Some might point to Paige, who is currently The Divas title holder as the future of The Divas Division, but if that is true, why continue to have Lee In the picture at all? Why not have Paige feud with other talent, and let Lee go off on another storyline altogether?
Having Lee out of the title picture would be a way for writers to create new and fresh storylines for The Divas division, and help build up a new crop of talent for when Paige’s reign finally comes to a end. Although this strategy would probably be best for everyone and allow Lee to take on a manager role with a up and coming superstar, The WWE seems to have no interest in taking Lee out of the title picture just yet.
Even with Nikki and Brie seemingly entering the title picture, after Nicki was awarded a title opportunity by Stephanie McMahon, it still seems like a desperate attempt to create just a little bit of doubt and confusion to the fans, before having Lee and Paige reemerge on top.

Put a Fresh Face In The Title Picture

Hopefully The WWE will remove Lee and Paige from the title picture altogether, and have Nicki come out of Night of Champions with the title around her waist. The win wouldn't be the most popular decision by WWE, but it would give them a chance to set up a title bout for Nicki and Brie at The Hell in a Cell pay per view in October.
The feud between Nikki and Brie Bella has already reached a boiling point in just a few short weeks, as shown in this awesome video promo of Nicki Bella revealing secrets about her life with sister Brie The storyline would also be a massive improvement over anything that Lee and Paige have done over the past few months
Whether WWE decides to keep Lee in the title picture is ultimately up to them, but with more and more talent losing TV time in favor of The Black Widow and her crazy antics, it will become very difficult for the company to build reliable and creditable talent to fight for The Divas title in the future, if they continue to take a backseat to AJ Lee.
