AJ Lee is certainly one of the trendsetters of what would eventually become the Women’s Evolution
Movement, as it is known today. She competed in the era of the divas but set the ring ablaze with
her in-ring performances.
Before she stepped foot in WWE, AJ Lee would be trained by the legendary Jay Lethal. She competed
as Miss April at this time, wrestling for a New Jersey promotion called WSU (Women Superstars
Uncensored). She signed a developmental contract with WWE in 2009.
During her time in FCW, AJ Lee started competing as April Lee, eventually adopting the name she
would be known for. During her time in FCW, AJ Lee won the Queen of FCW title. She was also part
of the third season of NXT, where AJ Lee’s mentor was Primo.
AJ Lee would debut as a superstar with mental issues, who had relationships with various male
superstars in the roster. Some of the superstars she was paired with are Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and
Dolph Ziggler. AJ Lee was also the RAW General Manager for a brief spell.
During her time in the main roster AJ Lee became a three time Divas Champion and was, at the time,
the longest reigning Divas Champion too. AJ Lee also famously cut a promo on the Total Divas cast.
Unfortunately, she would retire from the business in 2015 owing to her injuries.
AJ Lee is a published author whose book ‘Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking
Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules’ is a New York Times bestseller. Zelina Vega will play
her in the upcoming movie about Paige- ‘Fighting With My Family’. AJ Lee has been very vocal about
her bipolar disorder in her appearances since her retirement from the company.
