Roman Reigns will eventually win Universal title - but how should WWE book it?

Roman Reigns has made his long-awaited return to a WWE ring. The Big Dog had to take a hiatus from WWE due to Leukemia. However, Reigns is currently in remission and is back on RAW. Contrast to his regular entrances, the crowd greeted him with a warm reception and even chanted "This is your Yard".

Roman was usually being greeted with boos by the fans. However, this time, WWE has struck gold. The face of WWE now is receiving cheers from the WWE Universe. But, knowing WWE they will do something stupid and make the fans turn on Reigns again.

Eventually, Reigns will win the Universal championship. However, unlike all the previous instances, it should not be in bad taste. Reigns should grandly win the Universal title. In this thread, we will take a look a few steps WWE should take for booking Roman Reigns' next Universal title win.

#1 Put his opponent over at Wrestlemania 35

Drew McIntyre could use a win against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 35.
Drew McIntyre could use a win against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 35.

Currently, WWE has no plans for Roman Reigns for Wrestlemania 35. Thus, he could face anyone on the roster. Honestly, WWE should do a singles match between Roman Reigns and someone like Drew McIntyre - who could use a big battle at Wrestlemania 35.

However, this time, McIntyre should go over the Big Dog at the Showcase of the Immortals. Roman does not need a win at the Biggest event of the year. However, such a victory would propel McIntyre's legitimacy to the top of the moon. With Seth Rollins hopefully winning the Universal title from Brock Lesnar, we could potentially see a fantastic rivalry between Rollins and the Scottish Psychopath.

While Rollins and McIntyre have a go at each other post-Wrestlemania, WWE should the following with Reigns.

#2 Acceptance

Getting cleared for in-ring action after suffering a significant illness as Leukemia is not an easy task. Your fitness and endurance could take a massive toll. On the WWE Raw after Wrestlemania 35, Roman Reigns could come into the ring to address his loss against Drew McIntyre. Roman accepts that he is no longer the same guy who won against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33, or against Brock Lesnar at Summerslam 2018.

Such a promo would give even more personality to the Big Dog - whose current gimmick is "just winning".

#3 Building up

WWE could start building up Roman Reigns by pitting him up against mid-tier talents.

Just because you are not the former self does not mean you cannot eventually regain your best. Roman would promise his fans that he would strive to get on to the top of the mountain again. Roman will have to win matches against mid-card roster while maintaining close defeats at the hands of some of the top guys. That should be a slightly lengthy process.

When he eventually starts defeating some top guys, the fans would get on his back.

#4 The title shot

After all the build-up, around the time of Summerslam 2020, WWE could give Roman Reigns a one on one title shot against the then Universal champion. The difference would be that all these times - Roman got title shots against the will of the WWE Universe. However, now, Roman would have the support of the majority of the WWE Universe. Reigns' opponent could be one of the top hot babyfaces.

#5 The heel turn

A heel Roman Reigns is
A heel Roman Reigns is "best for business".

Similar to how Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship from AJ Styles, Roman Reigns should turn heel on his opponent - which would shock the entire WWE Universe. Yes, at that moment, Roman would have got OVER organically. However, WWE does not fare well with booking babyfaces and if Reigns were not to turn heel, in a few months the fans would start booing Reigns.

Thus a heel turn would certainly help Reigns to solidify his character - as a top heel in the company.
