ICW Women's Champion Kasey discusses Fear & Loathing XII, Aivil & BT Gunn vs Sami Callihan (Exclusive)

We caught up with Kasey!
We caught up with Kasey!

With only five women holding the ICW Women's Championship since its inception, the title is undoubtedly one of the most sought after belts in Scottish, and British, professional wrestling right now.

Four of the former champions are first-ever ICW Hall of Famer Carmel Jacobs, current WWE NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray, Viper AKA WWE Superstar Piper Niven, and Ring of Honor's Session Moth Martina, so the fifth name on that list is obviously in elite company - but the Mother of Chaos is by no means a name that should just simply be "part of the list" at all.

Holding the championship three times, the joint-most reigns with Kay Lee Ray, Kasey is going into ICW's Fear & Loathing XII as one of ICW's most important and most decorated champions of all time - and, having taken that title from Kay Lee Ray back in July, arguably the greatest women's wrestler in the company's history.

Well, we caught up with the Queen of Knees ahead of her showdown with long-term rival Aivil at the two-day extravaganza to ask her thoughts ahead of Scotland's biggest wrestling event of the year.

So, there's only one place to start, you're the current, and a three-time, ICW Women's Champion. Only Kay Lee Ray has held that title three times, the woman you won it from back in July and a woman who's currently holding the WWE NXT UK Women's Championship.

What does it mean to you to be Champion, and one of only five women to have ever held the title?

Well, for me, it means the world. Not only is it a world championship, but it is also the Women's Championship of ICW.

The reason why I moved to Glasgow is this company, and to be winning it three times just cements me in the history of ICW and makes everything worthwhile.

Of course, at ICW Gonzo, your next challenger for Fear & Loathing XII was set, and it's someone you know pretty well. Aivil got the win over Isla Dawn to stake her claim. What can we expect to see from that match at SWG3 in just under two weeks?

Well, it's hard to say, "Something new, something different," because we've pretty much-done everything - but you never know, when it comes to the Mother of Chaos, what I have up my sleeve.

There will be something new, something different because I'm not losing the title to Aivil. She has been a thorn in my side for over 15 months and, when it comes to the big events, the big shows, when it is time to cement your place, to make your name, she just doesn't quite make the mark - AKA she loses every single time.

That's when you need to be winning matches, that's when you need to be making a name for yourself - so she has a big hurdle to jump and overcome, a big mountain to climb if she is to do that at Fear & Loathing.

I think she's not quite there, she's a bit unhinged so maybe something needs to click for her to realize that she needs to go that extra mile to make her name in this company, and to beat someone like me, someone like Kay Lee Ray, someone like Viper.

Just because you're a crazy girl on the roster doesn't mean anything, because we are all a bit insane.

Now, while I don't want to assume you're looking past that match by any means, let's assume you emerge from F&L as champion.

ICW has some incredible female talent. There's yourself, obviously, and Aivil - but also the aforementioned Kay Lee Ray, Viper, Xia Brookside from NXT UK will be at Fear & Loathing, Toni Storm has appeared in the past, then there's the likes of Isla Dawn, and even up-and-coming stars like Angel Hayze are now in the mix.

She has impressed me from what I've seen both in ICW and outwith. Angel Hayze is one to watch.

Who will be your next challenger after Aivil?

Put it this way, if and when I beat Aivil, at Fear & Loathing, and I continue to be the Women's Champion - which, to me, is going to happen because I've beaten Aivil so many times before - Isla Dawn is one that I've met before, and I kind of want to explore where we can go with that.

And I'm always one for giving chances to people so chuck Angel Hayze in there as well.

You have previous in defeating Aivil, but you also have previous when it comes to winning title matches at Fear & Loathing.

At Fear & Loathing X, in the iconic SSE Hydro, you defeated Kay Lee Ray and Viper to win the title. Where does that rank in your highlight reel of wrestling memories, and can it ever be topped?

It's the greatest. I've wrestled at Korakuen Hall, I've wrestled in Japan and things like that but wrestling in front of the crowd that I've progressed in front of, learned in front of...

For instance, the year before, I was ringside watching Kay Lee Ray, Viper and Carmel when Carmel retired in the middle of that ring. I was ringside, I built the ring, I built the cages, I done the ring and, going from the year before, watching at ringside to being in that ring, to climbing that cage at my entrance, it meant everything.

COMING UP: Kasey's dream opponent

Kasey with the first-ever ICW Undisputed Champion - BT Gunn

So I might know the answer to this one, but I don't like to assume.

Aside from your own, what match are you most looking forward to at Fear & Loathing XII?

It's one that you probably are already going to guess. It's BT Gunn versus Sami Callihan - because, to see the recovery of BT over the last couple of months due to his injury, it will be a big one. It will be the catalyst to see how far he has come and how well BT has recovered.

It won't be an easy job for Sami Callihan because BT Gunn goes out there and puts everything on the line no matter what, and I've seen that on many occasions. It takes a lot to sideline BT Gunn. He's wrestled through so many injuries before, a lot of things people don't know of, and he always goes out like there is nothing wrong with him and puts on a show for the crowd.

That's what we are here to do, we put our bodies on the line, entertain and that is what we are here to do at the end of the day. BT Gunn and Sami Callihan is going to be a great one.

I didn't want to assume, but I did think that might be the one you'd pick if pushed...

Don't get me wrong, there are so many great matches on the card. The Purge versus Kings of Catch, and there's just so many! It's two nights! What can you not be looking forward to seeing?

Also, I know it's not Fear & Loathing but, at France 2000, I can't wait to see Viper vs Angel Hayze. That will be a good tell-tale sign of how good Angel Hayze can be with Viper - because it's Viper, she is world-renowned, she is amazing. She's just a great, great athlete.

The worst thing about this year's Fear & Loathing is it going to be really hard to go to the toilet or get a beer because there's just so many good matches on it.

Everyone needs to get their tickets! This is going to sell out. Even though it is two nights, both nights are going to be packed with the greatest wrestlers that the UK and the whole world has to offer.

A familiar sight...
A familiar sight...

You mentioned Sami Callihan vs BT Gunn, I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Sami and he told me that BT Gunn chopped him harder than anyone else on the planet, so there's another reason for everyone to go!

They have met before at Southside. I was there and had the pleasure of seeing that match.

Sami chopped him and I was watching backstage, and I just laughed to myself. I was like, it "This is the American version of BT Gunn versus BT Gunn."

They're both one and the same. They are very similar in how they wrestle. They are both prepared to get unhinged and do what they have to do to win a match.

When BT chopped Sami Callihan back, whenever I watch it, I'm like "Oh, that's an easy one of his chops," Sami literally stopped, looked around himself, left the ring, went backstage and came to us and said, "What the f**k?" Excuse my French.

He then proceeded to return to the ring, very tentatively, and continued the match with BT Gunn.

Finally, Fear & Loathing attracts huge names from all over the world.

Previously, the likes of Finn Balor, Mick Foley, Kurt Angle and the Dudley Boyz have all appeared. If you hold onto that title until next year and get told, "Kasey, you can defend the title against anyone in the world", who are you choosing?

Tessa Blanchard.

She is the epitome of what a female athlete in the sport should be. She is in great shape. She's shown that women - the same way Kay Lee Ray has, that they can take on men and not be seen as the weaker sex.

She has taken on Sami Callihan, for crying out loud, so I want to face her and I want to see if I can beat her. Actually, no, not see if I can beat her, I'm going to beat her.
