What's the story?

During the recent edition of his Talk is Jericho podcast, former 9-time WWE Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho revealed that it was him who suggested American promotion Impact Wrestling to hire Don Callis as the company's new Executive Vice-President.

In case you didn't know...

NJPW colour commentator and former WWE and ECW superstar Don Callis was recently hired by Impact Wrestling. On December 5, 2017, it was announced by Impact that Callis has been appointed as the promotion's new Executive Vice-President, alongside Scott D'Amore. This was also Callis' return to the Impact Zone for the first time since 2004.

The heart of the matter

During the latest episode of Talk is Jericho, co-host Chris Jericho was joined by Impact's newest executive vice-presidents Don Callis and Scott D'Amore and during his interaction with the two men, Jericho revealed that he recently gave Impact Wrestling a phone call in order to discuss the company's future.

It was claimed by Y2J that during his talk with the Impact management, he personally asked the promotion to sign Callis and appoint him as their new executive vice-president alongside Scott D'Amore, as Jericho believed that the company needed a fresh new start. It was also added by the former WWE World Champion that hiring Billy Corgan over Dixie Carter was surely an upgrade but it wouldn't have helped the company in getting a new direction and thus Callis was suggested.

"There was nothing exciting about it or sparking it, so to me, the only way to get it rolling would be to completely change directions and go with somebody new and different."- Jericho stated when asked about Impact's current condition.

What's next?

Both Callis and D'Amore will now look forward to changing the current landscape of Impact Wrestling as they aim to improve the current product and also book wrestlers in a better manner. Callis and D'Amore are both hugely experienced and have worked with many promotions in the past, especially Callis and it seems like the two men could possibly secure Impact's future and bring back some of its lost glory.

Author's Take

I think this was a very humble gesture by Chris Jericho and this goes on to show how much he cares about the wrestling business overall. In my opinion, Don Callis will do a great job with Impact and his past experiences with WWE and ECW will also help him a lot.
