What's the story?
This week's episode of Impact Wrestling was crazier than usual. This is because it was their Genesis special, and it started off with a big match.
EC3 put up his Impact Wrestling Grand Championship on the line against Matt Sydal. Sydal won the match with the Shooting Star Press.
In case you didn't know...
Matt Sydal and EC3 have been at odds for a while now. EC3 has been making fun of Matt Sydal for being the pure white meat babyface that he is, and for choking on the big stage.
Matt Sydal has been unsuccessful in claiming the gold in the past, pretty much proving EC3's prophetic words. Of course, the Grand Championship is contested almost under MMA rules, with judges and a round system.
EC3 had defeated Moose earlier last year, to become the Impact Grand Champion.
The heart of the matter
It was a power packed contest from the word go. Matt Sydal tried to go for his patented Shooting Star Press, but missed, only to be hit by EC3's trademark move, the 'One Percenter'.
Instead of covering Sydal however, EC3 began mocking him, allowing Matt Sydal to slip away. Sydal would, in time, deliver the Shooting Star Press and become the new Impact Grand Champion.
It is to be noted that the Grand Championship rules did not apply in this match. There were no judges or rounds, in this contest.
Congratulations to the brand new champion!
What's next?
Speculation is rife that EC3 is on his way to WWE. He was pulled from an event on the same day as the Royal Rumble, leading to this speculation. As for Matt Sydal, if you've read the spoilers about Impact taping, things will keep getting stranger.

This win was long overdue. Matt Sydal might be the most underrated wrestler, in the whole wide world.
This was the right decision as well, because EC3 was headed to greener pastures outside Impact Wrestling.
