Impact Wrestling News: Jeremy Borash's replacement officially announced
What's the story?
We recently brought you the update (as first reported by Mike Johnson) that Impact Wrestling announcer Jeremy Borash was on his way to WWE. We learned this week that he had been replaced by Sonjay Dutt at the commentary desk.
Dutt joined Josh Mathews, and provided colour commentary for this week's Impact broadcast. The general feedback for the same was quite positive.
In case you didn't know...
Jeremy Borash is a man who has donned many roles for Impact Wrestling through the years. From ring announcer to backstage interviewer, to on-air talent to the producer, Borash was rightfully described by many, as the mascot of Impact Wrestling.
The world was shocked when they learned that Borash would be headed to WWE, reportedly to work with NXT. The reactions were mixed.
Impact Wrestling fans bemoaned the loss of their integral figure, while WWE fans were overjoyed at the prospect of him working with Matt Hardy to further the 'Woken' universe.
The heart of the matter
While Sonjay Dutt has been a major on-air talent for Impact Wrestling, he's also been involved in a backstage creative role for some time now. It made perfect sense for him to join the commentary desk, considering he was the one thinking of creatives for the talent.
From the sound of it, Dutt seemed to be enjoying his new role. This is what he Tweeted out, during this week's broadcast.
It will be interesting to see whether Sonjay Dutt continues to remain at the desk when he returns to the fold as an active wrestler. For the time being, we look forward to seeing him at the commentary desk. Fans certainly seem to like him in this role!
I've had many wonderful conversations with Jeremy Borash and Sonjay Dutt for Sportskeeda Wrestling. I cannot imagine anyone better suited for this role than Dutt is.
Josh Mathews was the colour commentator on Impact Wrestling until recently, so it'll be interesting to see him transition into the play-by-play role again!
