Impact Wrestling News: Matt Sydal accused of ripping promoter off; Sydal fires back

What’s the story?

A British pro-wrestling promotion, BCW, are reportedly accusing Matt Sydal of fraud.

Additionally, BCW has also published a letter sent to them via email by Sydal’s agent William Behrens. Fans can read the series of Tweets detailing the entire situation below:

And also @findevan ?s agent @WilliamBehrens took the deposit through his paypal then when i requested it back said it was nothing to do with him and to deal with Matt although he dud refund his cut of the deposit $300 out of $1500 only $1200 still to be returned

The emails have bern going back and forward for 3 days so yes that was tried and failed and being told straight im not getting my $1200 because he has spent it

In case you didn’t know…

Matt Sydal is perhaps best known for his time in the WWE as Evan Bourne. Sydal now performs for Impact Wrestling, where he is the reigning Impact Grand Champion.

BCW (British Championship Wrestling) management have sent out a series of social media posts; accusing Sydal of not showing up for the BCW event he was booked for.

The heart of the matter

Apparently, Sydal was paid $1,500 as deposit out of which his agent William Behrens received a $300 share. Nevertheless, per the ‘letter’ sent to BCW by Behrens—something that BCW has now published on the internet—after taking the aforementioned deposit Sydal’s team informed BCW that he won’t be able to make it from the US to the UK, as he missed his flight due to road traffic while getting to the airport. Below are a few excerpts from Behrens’ letter to BCW—

“I know you wanted Matt to buy a new flight, but so too, if you wanted him there tomorrow, you could have bought the flight too. It’s why I gave you the info I research last night looking for the lowest fares.”

Furthermore, Behrens’ letter and BCW’s statements confirmed that the agent has returned his $300 to the promotion, however, Sydal is yet to pay the remaining $1,200 to BCW. Besides, Behrens is emphasizing that the BCW should’ve paid for another flight costing $1,333 which Matt could’ve boarded at the time.

Besides, BCW is alleging that they've been told straight that Sydal can't return the $1,200 at this time, as he's spent it, but he'll make it up to them by performing for the promotion next year. Sydal has reacted to the fiasco on TwitLonger--

"I’m trying to do right by you but you aren’t making it easy."

"I don’t have the deposit money. You should be a professional and use it towards a future show."

What’s next?

Behren's letter to BCW doesn’t refute the fact that Sydal is yet to pay back the promoters—in fact, he added that Sydal has promised to “make good on it”.

Author’s take

Matt Sydal is an excellent in-ring performer, however, not returning the promoter’s deposit money wouldn’t be a good look at him.

It’d be wrong to accuse either side, without the dispute being settled either in or out of a court of law. Here’s hoping, Sydal and BCW settle this thing, lest it turns into yet another legal drama like THIS.
