What’s the story?

John Cena has taken to social media to address the situation that has Ford Motor Company suing him for allegedly violating agreement terms.

In a rather subtle reference to the ongoing fiasco, Cena simply posted a photograph of a 1980s Ford Mustang GT on his official Instagram page—

In case you didn’t know…

As we had previously reported, John Cena was selected from an extensive group of applicants for the opportunity to purchase a 2017 Ford GT worth around half-a-million dollars.

However, Cena sold the newly purchased vehicle and per allegations from Ford, the popular WWE Superstar netted a huge, unfair profit in the sale.

The heart of the matter

Ford is alleging that John Cena violated terms of the agreement he signed with the company when he’d purchased the car; according to which the owner of the 2017 Ford GT is disallowed from selling the car before having completed two years of its ownership.

Nevertheless, given that Cena refrained from holding up those terms—selling the car before the 2-year ownership period—he’s being sued by Ford for loss of brand value, ambassador activity and customer goodwill from the improper sale.

Furthermore, one ought to note that Cena had indeed informed Ford about his intentions of selling the 2017 Ford GT as he ‘had to pay some bills’; and is yet to provide an official statement on the controversy.

The only reference he has made to his fallout with Ford is the aforementioned Instagram photo of a 1980s Ford Mustang GT.

What’s next?

Given John Cena's high public profile and the global automobile brand that is Ford, this matter is receiving considerable media coverage.

Author’s take

Both Ford and Cena are magnanimous brands in the world of luxury/automobiles and sports-entertainment respectively.

Here’s hoping this doesn’t turn into a prolonged and ugly court battle, and instead is resolved peacefully and swiftly.
