What’s the story?

While recently speaking with Interactive Wrestling Radio, Impact Wrestling superstar Petey Williams spoke about a host of topics, which included his thoughts on the recent incident baseball bat incident between Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards.

In case you didn’t know…

Petey Williams made his return to Impact Wrestling at Destination X in 2017, when he interfered in a GFW X-Division Championship ladder match between Sonjay Dutt and Trevor Lee. Upon his return to Impact, Williams immediately entered himself into the X-Division Title picture and at GFW Impact: Victory Road (2017), Williams lost to Lee in an X-Division Championship match.

Shortly afterward, Williams was also awarded a shot at the Impact Global Championship, but eventually lost to Eli Drake.

The heart of the matter

During his conversation with Interactive Wrestling Radio, Petey Williams spoke about a host of topics and below are a few highlights from the interview:

On the baseball bat incident between Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards:

According to Petey Williams, he believes that the people on the internet lost their minds over the fact that Sami Callihan claimed that he wasn’t sorry for hitting Eddie Edwards with the baseball bat, which eventually resulted in Edwards suffering from broken bones in his face and as well as a broken nose.

However, Williams noted that Callihan’s cocky attitude towards the entire incident was indeed good for business, as several fans around the world would tune in to see Sami get his butt kicked by Eddie.

"The internet lost its mind because he said he wasn't sorry for what he did. It is good for business! It is very good for business that he said he's not sorry. Because, you know what happened? The next week, more people tuned in because they want to see Sami get his butt kicked by Eddie. This is what a grudge match like back in the 80's and even before that, this is what a grudge match should be!"

Impact Wrestling’s strategy:

Williams stated that Impact Wrestling’s current strategy has definitely been helping the company and is heading towards a positive direction. Following the culmination of the Impact vs Lucha Underground event, it can now be assumed that Impact is looking to work alongside other wrestling promotions rather than compete against them.

“It is like the wrestling community is coming together and everyone wins. It isn't like the Monday Night Wars where you were either watching Nitro or Raw and that's it! There's so much content out there so that fans can watch everything if they want to watch it. Our TV schedule is going to be changing soon so that instead of taping 3 months’ worth of shows in a week, we'll be filming a month's worth of shows in 2 days. We're going to be traveling more. It is growing! And, I'm really excited for it!"

What’s next?

Petey Williams is slated to challenge Matt Sydal for the X-Division Championship at Impact’s upcoming pay-per-view, Impact Wrestling Redemption, which takes place on the 22 April, 2018 at the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida.

Author’s Take

In my opinion, Sami Callihan’s action against Eddie Edwards definitely caught the attention of a lot of people and as Petey Williams stated, it was definitely best for business.
